As a Digimon fan, I’m really into how Digimon Story: Time Stranger lets you evolve and *devolve* your Digimon – you’ll be doing that a lot to progress! Luckily, it’s pretty easy to get the hang of, at least when you first start. Most Digimon evolve when they hit certain stat levels, and it’s not too hard to boost those stats early on.
Later in the game, evolving your Digimon becomes more difficult. The stat requirements increase significantly, and you might struggle to reach them. You can influence this by considering your Digimon’s personality, which is one of 16 types that affect how their stats develop. Certain personalities are even essential for evolution – many Mega evolutions and all DNA evolutions need specific personality types in your Digimon.
It takes time and effort to change your Digimon’s personality, and can sometimes be tricky. This guide will help you figure out the best way to do it in Digimon Story: Time Stranger.
How to change a Digimon’s personality – Digimon Story: Time Stranger
It’s possible to change your Digimon’s personality, but it’s not a simple process.
Changing your Digimon’s personality is easiest when it’s in your active party, traveling with you through the Digimon World and its various locations. After battles, your Digimon might show a speech bubble, meaning you can talk to it. These conversations usually involve answering a question, and you’ll have a few different options. Some answers have personality icons next to them – choosing those will gradually shift your Digimon’s personality towards that type.
The Digimon you keep in your box or farm might occasionally ask you questions, and how you answer them can change their personality. However, this doesn’t happen very often, so it’s not a dependable way to influence their traits, particularly if you have many Digimon.
As you answer the questions, you won’t directly pick your Digimon’s personality. Instead, there are four main personality groups, and once your Digimon’s personality changes enough, it will be assigned one of four possible personalities *within* that group.
Here’s a useful trick: you can sometimes manipulate the personality change system by switching Digimon between your active party and your box. If a Digimon has a speech bubble, open the setup menu and swap it with a Digimon from your box. When you return to the main screen, the Digimon you swapped in will often still have the speech bubble, letting you continue working on personality changes quickly until you get the desired result. It doesn’t always work, but it’s a helpful way to speed up the process.
On the DigiFarm, you can shape your Digimon’s personality. By using Training Sets, which take 15 real-time minutes to complete, you can gradually shift your Digimon’s traits as shown on its personality screen. While it can be a bit tedious and may require using multiple sets, this method is reliable and will eventually allow you to achieve your desired personality type.
