Darian for PVE
With Sonya, Tyr, and now Darian, it’s clear we’ve entered a new era of powercreep. All of the recently released story units deal a lot of damage, and Darian definitely fits that pattern.
Darian is primarily known for dealing a significant amount of damage. With a full +5 potential, she inflicts 1,300% damage to the primary target and 900% to all others. Unlike many other costumes with comparable damage multipliers, Darian doesn’t have any noticeable limitations or drawbacks. She’s a powerhouse without any weaknesses.
I’m really impressed with her offensive stats! She’s got a huge 385 ATK and does a full 100% crit damage. Now, her base crit rate is only 5%, but honestly, that’s not a big deal when you’re focusing on PVE content. It’s easily covered by other buffs and gear, so it’s not something I worry about too much. She’s a powerhouse!
To show how much stronger newer units have become, let’s compare Darian to Night of Jealousy Levia. Levia deals 4 hits of 300% damage (1,200% extra damage when chained) to the primary target and 4 hits of 90% damage (360% extra chain damage) in a wide area for 4 Skill Points. Darian is noticeably more powerful while costing fewer Skill Points.
Darian’s area of effect (AOE) attack damages enemies in long, diagonal lines – similar to Queen of Signatures Michaela. This gives Darian a special edge when fighting certain fire bosses, as most water-based attackers typically hit in straight lines, horizontally and vertically. While Code Name A Rafina is another water costume that attacks diagonally, her damage isn’t as strong (because of her low base attack), and her diagonal range is considerably shorter.
Because of her angled area of effect, she can typically only damage 4-5 enemies simultaneously. This makes her less effective at quickly eliminating large groups of enemies, but she excels at precisely targeting individual enemies and hitting vulnerable spots in difficult-to-access areas.
Darian offers a special advantage in PvE with how she directs knockback. When she hits an enemy, she pulls them back at a diagonal angle. This makes her really helpful when fighting groups of enemies, because you can reposition them to get the most out of your area-of-effect attacks. Having Darian in your team is valuable for this reason alone.
Generally, Darian excels in all PvE game modes as a powerful, straightforward attacker. Investing in her now is a good idea, as she’s expected to become even more effective when her second costume becomes available.
Darian for PVP
Darian isn’t quite prepared for Player vs. Player (PVP) battles yet, as she needs another outfit. Currently, Darian is a powerful attacker costing 3 Skill Points (SP), which is helpful, but doesn’t make her stand out too much. She’s good, but not yet particularly unique.
Honestly, right now I don’t really see a reason to use Darian when Queen of Signatures Michaela is available. She deals 1170% damage (that’s including chain damage!) in the same area, but only costs 2 SP. Yeah, Michaela does drain your SP after using her skill, but in PVP you should be emptying your SP bar anyway, so it doesn’t really matter. Because she’s cheaper to use and has other good costumes that work well with her, Michaela is just the better choice over Darian at the moment, in my opinion.
Time will tell whether Darian’s second costume improves her PVP performance.
Darian’s exclusive weapon
Similar to other high-end items, Darian’s special weapon provides a helpful stat boost (ATK 45%), but doesn’t significantly impact gameplay outside of competitive ranked matches. Think of it as a non-essential purchase – we don’t recommend using your tickets on it unless you’re willing to spend a lot and are focused on achieving high rankings.
Conclusion
Okay, so I’ve been checking out the new story characters, and wow, they’re seriously powerful – it feels like a big jump in powercreep. Darian, in particular, is a beast! She does massive damage, and what’s really cool is her AOE – diagonal water attacks are actually pretty rare, so that’s a big deal. Plus, she has this unique knockback that pulls enemies back diagonally, which is super useful. I’m already thinking she’s going to be essential for the upcoming fiend hunts, honestly.
Currently, she’s a fairly basic attacker – there isn’t a lot to analyze at this stage. However, you can anticipate that she’ll become more powerful and offer a more compelling gameplay experience when her second costume is released.
