Keep in mind that release dates on Hulu can differ depending on where you are, but these are the newest additions available from late September through early October, so you can start watching immediately.

‘Werewolves’ (2024)

This action-horror story takes place during an unusual supermoon. It centers on a scientist and a few survivors who face a terrifying outbreak that transforms regular people into quick, group-hunting werewolves. The story focuses on a siege-like situation-with radio alerts, blocked-off areas, and desperate runs to secure locations-as the group figures out how the infection works and how to survive it.

‘Werewolves’, directed by Steven C. Miller, features Frank Grillo, Katrina Law, and Ilfenesh Hadera in leading roles, and Lou Diamond Phillips appears in a supporting capacity. The film combines practical creature effects – using suits – with visual effects enhancements. It was funded by independent investors who specialize in genre films with a strong emphasis on special effects.

‘Bloody Axe Wound’ (2024)

This horror-comedy follows Abbie, a teen living in a quiet town. Her dad owns a video store, but he’s also secretly committing real murders. As the number of victims and VHS tapes grows, Abbie must choose between continuing the “family business” or stopping the violence for good.

The film, written and directed by Matthew John Lawrence, stars Sari Arambulo, Billy Burke, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Chet Siegel. It was made using an independent, low-budget approach, focusing on realistic special effects and clever filmmaking techniques. The production team was small and filmed extensively on location.

‘Mafia Mamma’ (2023)

An American mother travels to Italy for a funeral only to find out she’s unexpectedly inherited leadership of a mafia family. What begins as a fish-out-of-water situation quickly becomes an intensive lesson in how the organization operates – she must learn the rules of being a consigliere, navigate complex relationships with other groups, and deal with rival families as she steps into her new role.

‘Mafia Mamma’, directed by Catherine Hardwicke, features Toni Collette and Monica Bellucci in leading roles, and Rob Huebel in a supporting role. The story, written by Michael J. Feldman and Debbie Jhoon, was filmed on location in Italy, utilizing real interiors and public squares (piazzas) to create humorous scenes.

‘Barbarian’ (2022)

A traveler’s late-night arrival at a Detroit rental turns unsettling when they find the house is already inhabited-and a terrifying secret lurks in the basement. The story is told in separate sections, each revealing new perspectives on the events unfolding within the house and explaining the neighborhood’s unusual state.

‘Barbarian’ is a film written and directed by Zach Cregger, and features performances by Georgina Campbell, Bill Skarsgård, and Justin Long. The movie was produced by BoulderLight and its collaborators, who focused heavily on building the sets-particularly the house’s underground areas-and skillfully changing the perspective from which the story is shown.

‘Master Z: Ip Man Legacy’ (2018)

Following his defeat by Ip Man, Cheung Tin Chi attempts to lead a peaceful life, but he’s soon caught up in conflicts with both local triads and foreign gangs in Hong Kong. The film follows his struggle to safeguard his son and those he cares about, all while staying true to the principles of Wing Chun.

The film, directed by Yuen Woo-ping, features a cast including Max Zhang, Dave Bautista, Michelle Yeoh, and Tony Jaa. The fight scenes are notable for their expansive camera work and battles against multiple enemies. Raymond Wong and Edmond Wong, experienced action producers, also contributed to the film’s story.

‘Underwater’ (2020)

A powerful earthquake destroys an underwater drilling station, trapping a small crew. They must navigate through broken hallways and flooded compartments to get to the emergency escape pods. While making their way through the damaged and compressed areas, they discover creatures that were awakened by the earthquake.

‘Underwater’ is a film directed by William Eubank and features a cast including Kristen Stewart, Vincent Cassel, Jessica Henwick, John Gallagher Jr., and Mamoudou Athie. The movie’s production involved building massive water-tank sets, designing pressure suits with help from experts, and combining visual effects with real-life stunts.

‘Ice Age: Collision Course’ (2016)

A blunder by Scrat in space causes asteroids to head towards Earth, and Manny, Sid, Diego, and the rest of the herd must figure out a way to prevent a collision. The story follows their journey as they change migration plans, experience important family moments, and encounter new groups of animals, all while facing the danger of extinction.

The animated movie was co-directed by Mike Thurmeier and Galen T. Chu, and features voice acting from Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Denis Leary, Simon Pegg, Queen Latifah, and a talented cast. Blue Sky Studios was responsible for the animation itself, while franchise producer Lori Forte made sure everything stayed consistent with previous films and that the production process ran smoothly.

‘The Last Witch Hunter’ (2015)

A warrior who doesn’t age, living in New York City today, has a fragile peace with witches. But when a long-time foe returns to life, the city is put in danger. The narrative blends modern-day detective work with events from the past – stretching back centuries – and detailed descriptions of magical practices.

‘The Last Witch Hunter’, directed by Breck Eisner, features performances by Vin Diesel, Rose Leslie, Elijah Wood, and Michael Caine. The film’s visual effects are a blend of real-life pyrotechnics and computer-generated imagery, used to create magical symbols. Dedicated makeup and design teams were responsible for bringing the Witch Queen to life and building the physical sets used for the film’s ritual scenes.

‘Knight and Day’ (2010)

An ordinary person finds themselves on the run around the world after an encounter with a dangerous agent protecting a new, powerful technology. The action moves quickly from Boston to the Alps and then to the Mediterranean, filled with betrayals and thrilling escapes.

‘The Sixth Sense’ was written and directed by M. Night Shyamalan and features performances by Bruce Willis, Haley Joel Osment, and Toni Collette. The film was made in collaboration with studios that specialize in suspenseful, character-focused stories. Its distinctive, somber, and wintry atmosphere was created by Tak Fujimoto’s work as a cinematographer and the musical score composed by James Newton Howard.
