Today, Xbox announced improvements coming to Xbox Game Pass, but unfortunately, these changes also mean a price increase.
To start, the various Game Pass subscriptions are getting new names. Previously known as Core and Standard, they’re now called Essential and Premium. The Ultimate tier is now the most expensive option. Here’s how the pricing now looks:
- Essential – $9.99 a month
- Premium – $14.99 a month
- Ultimate – $29.99 a month

However, your subscription is getting some valuable additions to justify the price increase. In addition to EA Play, Ultimate now features Ubisoft+ Classics. Plus, starting November 18th, Fortnite Crew will be included, giving Fortnite players access to all in-game Battle Passes and a unique skin each month.
In addition to everything else, the game library is growing, with over 400 games now available to Ultimate subscribers. They’re also committing to releasing “75+ new games each year,” including everything published by Xbox. However, given this significant price increase, many people will likely question whether what was previously considered “the best deal in gaming” still offers good value.
