After months of complaining that Monster Hunter Wilds is too easy, Omega Planetes is here to tip every hunter upside down and shake out all their lunch money

Honestly, I didn’t think the hardest fight in Monster Hunter Wilds would be a crossover with Final Fantasy XIV, but as a huge fan of both games, it’s been surprisingly awesome! I’ve been getting absolutely wrecked – I keep carting over and over – and I’m loving every minute of it. It’s seriously the most fun I’ve had failing repeatedly in a long time.

Initially, I assumed my lack of practice with Wilds for a few months was the issue-I was really out of shape, focusing too much on my Hunting Horn songs, and taking a lot of damage. However, it seems Omega Planetes is genuinely difficult.

Browsing the Monster Hunter subreddit today, I saw lots of different posts. Some players were motivating each other to “lock in,” while others were expressing frustration with how challenging Omega Planetes actually is.

Thanks, I hate it from r/MHWilds

“Just tried to solo this thing and uh… that’s the first time I ever failed a mission solo,” one post titled Omega Planetes got hands reads. “This guy is tough.” One of the top comments calls it “the hardest fight in the game for a solo player,” while another says, “I was waiting for something hard, but DARK SOULS????”

Currently, a popular post on the Omega Planetes subreddit just reads “Thanks, I hate it.” The comments range from saying the fight is bad to claiming it’s only enjoyable when played with support hunters. However, some players are actually enjoying the challenge. For example, one player shared their 17-minute completion time for the Savage version, which is a very impressive result as of now.

I really enjoyed the few hunts I did yesterday! It reminded me of the first fight in Wilds, where good teamwork is crucial-I especially like that you gain aggro by hitting Omega’s head. As someone who primarily plays Hunting Horn, it feels more important than ever to have lots of support songs ready to help my teammates.

Is it incredibly difficult? Absolutely. I sometimes prefer to avoid challenging things, but I’ve grown to anticipate this level of difficulty in Monster Hunter games. I wonder if Capcom listened to the feedback after the game’s release and thought, “They want more challenging battles? Let’s give them everything we’ve got!”

It really looks like this game is designed for playing with others, and that won’t appeal to everyone. However, I’m excited about it, since I’ve always enjoyed hunting with friends rather than playing solo. Last night, I unexpectedly found myself trying to recreate a party setup from Final Fantasy 14 with a friend in Monster Hunter – something I definitely didn’t foresee happening!

I’m really excited to dive back in, even though I expect to be defeated soundly… and that’s *before* I even face the incredibly difficult Savage version of the battle.
