Star Wars: Starfighter Rumored Plot Involves Rey Skywalker

Recent online discussions are speculating about the storyline of Star Wars: Starfighter, hinting that it might tie into the events of the sequel trilogy and the character of Rey Skywalker.

The Rumor

The story began with Jon Rocha sharing that the film’s plot centers around Ryan Gosling’s character safeguarding the son of a Jedi woman, portrayed by Amy Adams.

Flynn Gray plays the role of her son, and he is able to use the Force. Ryan Gosling’s character doesn’t have Force abilities, but his job is to protect the boy from dangerous enemies.

More rumors

Talk about the possibility really took off when The Den of Nerds posted on X that the rumor is real. Apparently, the story revolves around Amy Adams’ character (can you guess who?) giving her child to Rey Skywalker – which is a lot like how Mando brought Grogu to Luke.

Sources are saying the planned story path seems like a business decision to make Rey the main focus of upcoming Star Wars films and shows, instead of a natural development chosen by director Shawn Levy.

As The Hollywood Reporter noted in a report last year, Daisy Ridley was positioned as the future of the Star Wars franchise (I was skeptical then). However, she hasn’t officially been confirmed as part of the new cast – perhaps Disney has plans for her to lead a separate movie that they previously cancelled?

“It is SHOCKING to me that the entire plot of Starfighter is basically a primer to get the new Force Sensitive character to Rey,” he wrote.

What’s really going on?

As a lifelong film fan, I honestly think continuing the story with Rey would be ludicrous. But let’s be real, Disney has already done so much damage to Star Wars that I wouldn’t be surprised if they just kept going down this path. It feels like they’ll double down on choices that don’t make sense, even if it means further harming the franchise.

I believe Kathleen Kennedy will likely leave Lucasfilm in 2026, coinciding with Bob Iger’s departure as Disney’s CEO.

I suspect the creative teams and producers at Lucasfilm are very worried, because a new leadership group might come in and (hopefully) make significant changes. This is likely why those at Lucasfilm are working hard to save their positions, and pushing this storyline with Rey. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen. If it does? The result will be similar to the last few years of Star Wars content – viewership will be low.
