Shirley Curry, affectionately called Skyrim Grandma by her followers, has revealed she will stop posting The Elder Scrolls videos as she approaches her 90th birthday. She’s decided to retire from content creation, marking the end of an era for her fans.
In a YouTube video released today, titled “My Goodbye to Skyrim,” Curry announced that she was finishing her decade-long project of creating The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim content for her fans. She stated that she’d reached the end of her journey finding new things to share.
I’m reaching the age of 90, which is why things are coming to an end,” Curry shared. “Whenever I get a fresh idea for a Skyrim playthrough… I might create one, two, or even three new characters, but I quickly lose interest. That’s the reason I’ve decided to stop posting any more Skyrim content.”
I’m exhausted and just not enjoying it anymore, likely because so many young children are watching,” Curry explained, adding that she wasn’t receiving the same kind of engagement from her audience as before. “Now, all I get are comments like ‘Hi Grandma, I love you Grandma’ – and that’s not the type of response I’m creating videos for.”
Curry had previously announced her retirement, but she often ended up returning to gaming-for example, she started playing The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered earlier this year. However, this time the Elder Scrolls legend indicated this retirement might be final.
In her latest video, Curry repeatedly advised fans still hoping for more Skyrim content from her to download a fan-created mod that adds her as a playable follower (Nexus Mods has it available). As an alternative, Curry mentioned she maintains a YouTube channel dedicated to bible study and invited interested fans to subscribe and watch her videos there.
Curry didn’t say anything about whether she’s holding out for her role in The Elder Scrolls 6, whenever that game is released. Bethesda has stated they plan to include Curry in their next project somehow, but there’s currently no indication the game is close to being finished, even though the first teaser trailer came out over seven years ago.
I really value the support of my long-time viewers – I’ve been sharing my Skyrim gameplay and videos for around 15 years now,” Curry explained. “You likely already have my email address, and I’ll occasionally post a vlog when I have something I want to share with you all.” Curry has also included her mailing address in the video description if anyone prefers to reach out through the postal service.
That’s everything I wanted to share,” Curry finished. “I’m hoping my long-time viewers will continue to watch and engage with me as they always have.”
