This week on Hulu, you’ll find a little bit of everything – from brand new movies just off the festival circuit to reliably funny comedies, spooky supernatural tales, and exciting action films. Whether you’re in the mood to discover something fresh or revisit a favorite, Hulu has thrillers, romances, and plenty more to choose from.

As a movie fanatic, I’ve put together a quick list – a countdown from 10 to 1 – of films I think you’ll love. For each one, I’ve given you a short rundown of the plot and highlighted the key creators behind it. It’s designed to help you quickly find something awesome to watch, depending on what you’re feeling!

10. ‘The Proposal’ (2009)

In ‘The Proposal,’ a book editor named Margaret Tate, played by Sandra Bullock, is in danger of being deported. To avoid this, she convinces her assistant, Andrew Paxton (Ryan Reynolds), to pretend to be her fiancé. Their scheme gets complicated when they have to face her family in Alaska. The film also stars Betty White, Mary Steenburgen, Craig T. Nelson, and Malin Åkerman.

Anne Fletcher directed the film, based on a screenplay by Peter Chiarelli. Oliver Stapleton handled the cinematography, Priscilla Nedd-Friendly edited the film, Nelson Coates designed the production, and Aaron Zigman composed the music. David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman produced this popular romantic comedy.

9. ‘Night at the Museum’ (2006)

The movie ‘Night at the Museum’ follows Larry Daley, a struggling father who gets a job as a night watchman at the American Museum of Natural History. He soon finds out that all the museum’s exhibits magically come to life when everyone goes home. Ben Stiller plays Larry, and the film also stars Robin Williams as Theodore Roosevelt, along with Carla Gugino, Dick Van Dyke, Mickey Rooney, Bill Cobbs, Owen Wilson, and Steve Coogan.

Shawn Levy directed the film, which was written by Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon, and based on a children’s book by Milan Trenc from 1993. It combines real footage with computer-generated effects, features cinematography by Guillermo Navarro, editing by Don Zimmerman, and a musical score by Alan Silvestri. The film was produced by 1492 Pictures and 21 Laps Entertainment.

8. ‘Fear Below’ (2025)

‘Fear Below’ is a 1916 Australian thriller about a team of divers tasked with retrieving a van from a river. Their dangerous mission quickly turns into a fight for survival when a large bull shark starts attacking them. The challenges of the time period – like basic equipment, powerful currents, and poor underwater visibility – make an already difficult job even more perilous.

Matthew Holmes directed and wrote the film, which stars Hermione Corfield, Jake Ryan, Jacob Junior Nayinggul, Arthur Angel, Josh McConville, Maximillian Johnson, and Clayton Watson. The movie features realistic action sequences filmed in and around rivers, using diving equipment and props from the early 1900s.

7. ‘The Other Woman’ (2014)

‘The Other Woman’ follows three women who unexpectedly team up when they each discover they’re being deceived by the same man. Cameron Diaz stars as lawyer Carly Whitten, Leslie Mann plays his wife, Kate, and Kate Upton is Amber. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau plays the man who has led them all on.

Nick Cassavetes directed the film, based on a script by Melissa K. Stack. Nicki Minaj, Taylor Kinney, and Don Johnson appear in supporting roles. With cinematography by Robert Fraisse, editing by Alan Heim and Jim Flynn, and a musical score by Aaron Zigman, the movie has a runtime of 109 minutes.

6. ‘Practical Magic’ (1998)

‘Practical Magic’ is a film based on Alice Hoffman’s novel about sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, who are witches living under a family curse that brings misfortune to the men they fall in love with. The movie follows their struggles with a threat from their past and the judgmental eyes of their town. Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman play the sisters, and Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest star as their powerful aunts.

I’m really excited about this film! Griffin Dunne is directing, and the script is fantastic – it’s a collaboration between Robin Swicord, Akiva Goldsman, and Adam Brooks. Plus, the cast is amazing – Goran Višnjić, Aidan Quinn, and Evan Rachel Wood are all in it! Behind the scenes, they’ve got a really talented team too, including Andrew Dunn on cinematography, Elizabeth Kling editing, production design by Robin Standefer, and the incredible Alan Silvestri composing the music. It’s shaping up to be something special.

5. ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ (2023)

In ‘John Wick: Chapter 4,’ the famous assassin John Wick tries to escape the powerful High Table once and for all. His journey takes him across the globe, where he battles new foes and relies on the help of a few loyal friends. Keanu Reeves reprises his role as John Wick, and the film also stars Donnie Yen, Bill Skarsgård, Laurence Fishburne, Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Lance Reddick, Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins, Clancy Brown, and Ian McShane.

Chad Stahelski directed the film, which features a script by Shay Hatten and Michael Finch. It’s packed with impressive stunts and action sequences filmed in locations around the world. Dan Laustsen handled the cinematography, while Nathan Orloff and Evan Schiff edited the film. The music was composed by Tyler Bates and Joel J. Richard.

4. ‘Would You Rather’ (2012)

‘Would You Rather’ follows a group of people struggling financially who are invited to a dinner party hosted by a rich man. However, the dinner comes with a dark twist: they’re forced to play a dangerous and intense version of the ‘Would You Rather’ game. Brittany Snow plays Iris, who hopes to get help with her brother’s medical bills, and Jeffrey Combs plays the controlling host who makes each round a harsh test of their morals.

I was really impressed by the team behind this film! David Guy Levy directed it, working from a script by Steffen Schlachtenhaufen. And the cast is fantastic – you’ve got Enver Gjokaj, Charlie Hofheimer, Sasha Grey, the late John Heard, plus Jonny Coyne, June Squibb, Logan Miller, Lawrence Gilliard Jr., Eddie Steeples, Robin Lord Taylor, and even Robb Wells! Visually, it’s stunning thanks to Steven Capitano Calitri’s cinematography, and Josh Schaeffer did a great job with the editing. The music, a collaboration between Daniel Hunt and the late Barði Jóhannsson, is truly something special.

3. ‘The Man In My Basement’ (2025)

Based on Walter Mosley’s novel, ‘The Man In My Basement’ tells the story of Charles Blakey, a homeowner in Sag Harbor who rents out his basement to a mysterious tenant in a risky attempt to save his family home. Corey Hawkins stars as Blakey, with Willem Dafoe playing the unsettling tenant. Anna Diop and Tamara Lawrance also feature in important roles as the situation reveals hidden secrets and raises difficult questions about right and wrong.

Nadia Latif makes her first feature film as director, having collaborated with Walter Mosley on the screenplay. Ula Pontikos is the cinematographer, Mark Towns edited the film, and Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe composed the music. The project is a collaboration between Andscape, B.O.B. Filmhouse, Good Gate Media, and Protagonist Pictures.

2. ‘Swiped’ (2025)

‘Swiped’ is a new movie based on the true story of Whitney Wolfe Herd, the founder of Bumble. It follows her career from the beginning of dating apps all the way to creating a platform where women initiate conversations. Starring Lily James, along with Dan Stevens, Myha’la, and Jackson White, the film shows the challenges of starting a business, the legal issues she faced, and how Bumble changed the dating landscape by empowering women to make the first move.

Rachel Lee Goldenberg wrote and directed the film, collaborating with Bill Parker and Kim Caramele on the screenplay. Lily James, Jennifer Gibgot, and Andrew Panay produced it. The movie has a runtime of 110 minutes, with Doug Emmett handling the cinematography, Julia Wong editing, and Chanda Dancy composing the music.

1. ‘The Surfer’ (2024)

‘The Surfer’ takes place on a scorching Australian beach and tells the story of a father and son who encounter trouble with a group of aggressive locals while revisiting a familiar surf spot. Starring Nicolas Cage, the film follows a tense psychological battle as the father refuses to be intimidated, and the beautiful but remote beach setting adds to the feeling of danger and isolation.

I just finished watching this film, and it’s a really solid piece! Lorcan Finnegan directed, with a script by Thomas Martin. The cast is fantastic – you’ve got Julian McMahon, Nic Cassim, Miranda Tapsell, Alexander Bertrand, and Justin Rosniak all bringing their A-game. And the technical side is just as strong; Radek Ładczuk did the cinematography, Tony Cranstoun handled the editing, and François Tétaz composed a beautiful score. It all really comes together beautifully.
