The popular saying about the game of thrones is true – you either win, or you lose. Or, you create your own successful fantasy world and simply *acquire* the Iron Throne, avoiding all the drama. Recently, the iconic Iron Throne from *Game of Thrones* was sold for $1.49 million in 2024, and the buyer was a secret. Now we know who it was: Peter Jackson, the director behind *The Lord of the Rings* films. He now owns the throne used for *Game of Thrones*’ marketing and events – hopefully, it’s displayed right next to the One Ring!
It turns out Peter Jackson, the director, actually owns the iconic Iron Throne from *Game of Thrones*. He recently loaned it to Colossal Biosciences for a photoshoot featuring their newly revived Dire Wolf cubs. Colossal Biosciences has been working to bring extinct species back to life, and they’ve now successfully raised three incredibly cute Dire Wolf cubs.
As a huge fan of both Game of Thrones and bringing back extinct species, I was absolutely thrilled to see the photos of the baby Dire Wolves! It’s incredible that Colossal Biosciences managed to genetically engineer these majestic creatures. And to see them *sitting on the Iron Throne*? Amazing! It’s even cooler knowing George R.R. Martin is involved as an advisor and investor, and that Peter Jackson generously lent his original Iron Throne prop for the photoshoot. It really felt like a dream come true for any fan!

According to *The Hollywood Reporter*, Michael Jackson quietly owns the iconic Iron Throne prop from *Game of Thrones*. He loaned it to the biotechnology company Colossal, where it’s currently being used for promotional purposes. The prop had previously been sold at auction for $1.49 million last year, but the buyer’s identity wasn’t revealed until now.
Both Michael Jackson’s estate and George R.R. Martin, the creator of *Game of Thrones*, have invested in the effort to bring back dire wolves, through the Dire Wolf de-extinction project and Colossal Biosciences. It’s a wonderfully imaginative partnership! Martin explains that while many think of dire wolves as creatures of fantasy, they actually played an important role in North American ecosystems.
We think the Dire Wolf cubs deserve to rule from the Iron Throne – and it’s good to know Peter Jackson has it! It just feels like the natural order of things.
