Woke Marvel Comics Just Gave Me Another Reason Not To Buy Their Garbage

I was starting to consider getting back into Marvel comics – I actually enjoyed some of their recent titles like *Imperial* – but then the company did something that reminded me why I stopped reading them in the first place. They released content I found really off-putting and disappointing.

Around 15 years ago, I worked with Marvel Comics to promote *Nova* and *Guardians of the Galaxy* – both fantastic comics, though they haven’t felt quite the same since. Everything shifted when Disney acquired Marvel.

Marvel used to be great, but after *Endgame*, they made a lot of changes that fans haven’t liked. It feels like they abandoned what made the original movies special, and it’s really hurt the brand. Many people believe the new direction shows a lack of respect for the source comic books.

In an attempt to align the struggling Marvel Cinematic Universe with the comics, and seemingly influenced by the poorly-received *Fantastic Four: First Steps* film, Marvel is retiring the Silver Surfer. They’re replacing Norrin Radd with a new, female Silver Surfer. It’s a move that likely won’t resonate with fans – especially considering how few people even know what a local comic shop (LCS) is, let alone will rush to buy this new iteration.

I haven’t followed the comic series and don’t intend to, but the first issue came out in June. The fifth issue is coming next month, and it might be the final one. It seems this issue will introduce the new Silver Surfer, who is a woman, though her appearance is surprisingly masculine.

Okay, Marvel’s really got me curious with this new tease! They just dropped some character art and a cover hinting at… a brand new Silver Surfer? It’s a bit confusing, because they explicitly state the original Silver Surfer is gone. So, it seems we’re getting a successor, someone new taking up the mantle. I’m definitely intrigued to see who it is and how they’ll explain this!

The character has a very short, masculine haircut. They appear to have cosmic energy flowing through their arms, hands, and neck. Interestingly, while the character art initially depicts breasts, the official cover art shows them covered up.

It’s so unbelievable I can’t help but laugh.

Kevin Feige and Marvel seem to be alienating fans with their recent creative choices, leading to declining interest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Viewership numbers haven’t met expectations, resulting in a pause in MCU projects and budget cuts for Disney+. There are reports that Marvel is offering Robert Downey Jr. a substantial amount of money to return, likely in an attempt to boost flagging popularity. It remains to be seen if this will be successful.

Honestly, as a long-time Marvel fan, the comics haven’t really grabbed me in years. It feels like they’ve become more of a place for Kevin Feige to try out concepts for the MCU – and let’s be real, the results have been…mixed, haven’t they?

People like Joe Quesada, Tom Brevoort, and CB Cebulski – and really, everyone at Marvel – have completely compromised their principles. Many feel they’ve ruined the company and should be replaced.

Any chance Elon Musk can buy Disney next? Because this doesn’t look to be stopping soon. #RIPMarvel
