Grand Seiko recently introduced the SLGB005 “Violet Dawn,” a new Spring Drive watch inspired by the peaceful beauty of dawn in the Kirigamine Highlands of Shinshu, Japan. This is the third watch in the Ice Forest series and the first to be made with Grand Seiko’s Ever-Brilliant Steel. The SLGB005 features a unique dial with a frosty texture and a deep violet color that gradually lightens towards the center. This striking design highlights the smooth, flowing motion of the silver seconds hand, visually representing the calm passage of time.
The watch features a transparent sapphire caseback, showcasing its intricate Spring Drive Caliber 9RB2 movement. Its design is inspired by winter landscapes, with frosted detailing resembling snow-covered branches and sparkling jewel bearings mimicking starlight. The movement’s quartz oscillator and sensor are carefully sealed to protect them from environmental factors, and a built-in system maintains exceptional accuracy-±20 seconds per year. A subtle adjustment switch allows watchmakers to fine-tune the watch, ensuring its high level of precision lasts for years.
The 37mm watch from the Evolution 9 Collection features a stainless steel case with a beautiful finish – a mix of highly polished and brushed surfaces. The violet dial is easy to read thanks to clear, grooved markers and sword-style hands. Designed for comfort, the watch has a low profile and a sturdy stainless steel bracelet, making it well-balanced and comfortable to wear.
Only 1,300 of the SLGB005 “Violet Dawn” Spring Drive U.F.A. Edition watches will be available globally, and they will cost $11,100 USD or £9,500 GBP. You can find them at Grand Seiko boutiques and select retailers starting in November 2025.
