Okay, I just watched the new trailer for *Avatar: Fire and Ash*, and it’s giving us a much closer look at Pandora and a brand new Na’vi tribe. Sam Worthington, as Jake Sully, warns us that “This world is much deeper than you imagine,” but honestly, the trailer suggests things are even *more* dangerous than he thinks. It’s a visually stunning peek, and it definitely amps up the anticipation!
The Mangkwan Clan, sometimes called the Ash Clan, is central to the new story. The trailer reveals they believe Eywa, the guiding force of Pandora, left them when they needed help most. Led by Varang (Oona Chaplin), they’ve made a dangerous pact with Col. Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang), which could threaten Jake Sully, his family, and the entire world of Pandora.
In an interview with Empire, James Cameron described Varang as the leader of a people who have suffered greatly. He explained that this hardship has made her tough and determined, willing to do whatever it takes to protect them, even if it means making morally questionable choices.
Prepare to dive into a world beyond your wildest dreams! Check out the exciting new trailer for Avatar: Fire and Ash, coming to theaters December 19th.
Plus, you can revisit the stunning visuals of Avatar: The Way of Water – it’s back in 3D for one week only, starting October 3rd!

The trailer suggests a bigger conflict is coming. Spider, a human boy raised by Jake and Neytiri, is becoming more connected to his Na’vi family. At the same time, humans might find a way to breathe the air on Pandora, which could threaten the Na’vi’s existence.
Avatar: Fire and Ash is the third movie in the Avatar saga. James Cameron worked with Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman, and Shane Salerno to write the screenplay, which was based on a story they developed together.
The film brings back familiar faces like Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Kate Winslet. It’s produced by Lightstorm Entertainment and distributed by 20th Century Studios.
It took many years to bring this film to life. James Cameron first mentioned the idea of making sequels as early as 2006, and officially announced the first two in 2010. Filming for *Fire and Ash* began in New Zealand on September 25, 2017, at the same time as *Avatar: The Way of Water*, and continued for more than three years, wrapping up in late December 2020. Developing the necessary technology for filming underwater performance capture was a challenging part of the process and contributed to the long production timeline.
The movie has been delayed several times, most recently on August 9, 2024. It will now be released in US theaters on December 19. Director James Cameron is also planning two more *Avatar* sequels, with *Avatar 4* expected in 2029 and *Avatar 5* in 2031.
