Donald Trump Threatens Legal Action Against ABC Over ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ Return

Donald Trump has publicly disapproved of ABC renewing “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and suggested he might sue, as he shared on his social media platform, Truth Social, and in other statements.

The president described Kimmel as lacking talent and accused the network of bias.

Trump expressed disbelief that ABC News rehired Jimmy Kimmel, stating the White House had previously been informed the show was canceled. He suggested Kimmel’s ratings have plummeted and questioned his comedic abilities.

Trump criticized Jimmy Kimmel, claiming his show favors the Democratic Party and suggesting it could be illegal. He stated Kimmel’s show is “not funny” and harms the network by consistently presenting biased content, characterizing it as an unlawful contribution to the Democratic National Committee.

We’re going to try targeting ABC with this campaign and see how it performs. I previously secured $16 million from them, and this opportunity seems even more promising. They’re clearly struggling, and I have no sympathy for Jimmy Kimmel or his show’s poor viewership.

The $16 million Donald Trump mentioned stems from a 2024 agreement where Disney paid for his presidential library and legal costs. This payment was a result of incorrect statements made on ABC News by George Stephanopoulos regarding a rape allegation against Trump, where he stated Trump had been found liable.

Following controversial comments made by host Jimmy Kimmel about the aftermath of Charlie Kirk’s assassination, ABC briefly stopped airing “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on September 17th. Disney, ABC’s parent company, stated the show would return on September 22nd, explaining they suspended production to prevent further escalation of an already sensitive and emotional situation in the country.

Disney explained that they decided to briefly pause the show because some recent comments felt inappropriate given the timing. After careful discussions with Jimmy, they’ve decided to bring the show back on Tuesday.

Former President Trump recently stated that Jimmy Kimmel’s show was canceled because of poor viewership. He posted on his social media platform, Truth Social, congratulating ABC for what he called the necessary decision, and criticized Kimmel’s lack of talent and low ratings, even compared to Stephen Colbert. Trump also took aim at Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers, calling them “total losers” with similarly poor ratings on NBC, and urged the network to make changes.

This recent conflict shows the strained relationship between ABC, its on-air personalities, and Donald Trump, who has sued the network before. Kimmel’s show is back as discussions continue about fairness in the media, viewership numbers, and how the public reacts to political opinions expressed on television.
