The scene takes place in 1962 Derry, where the Hanlon family has recently relocated. As a Black family moving into a predominantly white town, they immediately encounter challenges due to racism. However, this is just one of the difficulties they will have to overcome.
The town has a dark past, plagued by unsolved crimes, especially the disappearances of several children. A group of kids believes these missing children are being held captive in the sewers – those who haven’t already been presumed dead. And they’re right – Pennywise is lurking down there, often seen with a small red balloon.
The trailer for *IT: Welcome to Derry* includes a few hidden references for Stephen King fans. We briefly see a young Dick Hallorann – the psychic chef from *The Shining* – and a bus traveling to Shawshank prison, a nod to *The Shawshank Redemption*. It’s fun to spot these connections!
What Is the Release Date for IT: Welcome to Derry?
This series will hit HBO Max just in time for Halloween on October 26.
