Florida horror fans will get a special preview of the highly anticipated 2025 film, *Sinners*, this Halloween. Directed by Ryan Coogler, the movie will be shown in the immersive 70MM IMAX format at the Autonation IMAX Theater within the Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale on October 31st.
This theater boasts the 15th largest IMAX screen in the United States and is incredibly rare, being one of just five worldwide that can project movies using both the latest IMAX dual laser technology and traditional 15/70mm film.
Set in 1932 Mississippi, the movie *Sinners* follows twin brothers, both played by Michael B. Jordan, as they return to their hometown and encounter a terrifying supernatural force. The film also stars Hailee Steinfeld, newcomer Miles Caton, Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Benson Miller, and Delroy Lindo.
Ryan Coogler developed the film through his production company, Proximity Media, and Michael B. Jordan was one of the first actors cast. The project was revealed in January 2024, and after several studios competed for it, Warner Bros. Pictures won the rights to distribute the movie. More actors joined the cast in April 2024, and filming took place between April and July. Ludwig Göransson, who frequently works with Coogler, created the music and also helped produce the film.
The movie *Sinners* first premiered in New York City at AMC Lincoln Square on April 3rd, and then opened across the country on April 18th. It was both a hit with critics and audiences, earning a total of $366.7 million around the world, with $278.6 million of that coming from the U.S. and Canada.
Critics loved the film, with 97% of 411 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes being positive. Reviewers called it a thrilling blend of stunning visuals and catchy music, highlighting the director Ryan Coogler’s impressive creativity. Metacritic gave it a score of 84, signaling near-universal praise, and CinemaScore awarded it an “A,” the best score for a horror movie in over three decades.

Reviewers loved both director Ryan Coogler’s creative approach and Michael B. Jordan’s acting. A.A. Dowd of Rolling Stone commented that Coogler was pushing the limits of typical franchise films, and Wendy Ide from The Observer highlighted that Coogler’s confidence and clear vision were key to the film’s success.
Peter Travers from ABC News hailed the film as the most ambitious and accomplished work yet from director Ryan Coogler and actor Michael B. Jordan. While some reviewers felt the latter half, which introduces supernatural elements, wasn’t as impactful as the first, and a Wall Street Journal critic noted the film’s ideas didn’t quite coalesce, Michael B. Jordan’s performance received widespread praise.
Ryan Coogler has mentioned Robert Rodriguez’s *From Dusk Till Dawn* as a key influence, drawing parallels to another Rodriguez film, *The Faculty*. When audiences see *Sinners* in IMAX 70MM this Halloween, they’ll experience Coogler’s most captivating work yet – a visually stunning and intensely scary movie.
