Damon Lindelof, known for creating shows like *Lost* and *The Leftovers*, has stated he won’t work with Disney until ABC reinstates *Jimmy Kimmel Live!*. He shared this decision in a lengthy post on Instagram after the network suspended the late-night show.
Lindelof expressed shock, sadness, and anger over yesterday’s suspension, hoping it will be quickly reversed. He stated that if the suspension isn’t lifted, he will feel he has no choice but to resign from the company.
Look, I have to say, ABC pulled the plug on Jimmy Kimmel’s show right after a monologue that really stirred things up. On September 15th, Kimmel took aim at the reaction from MAGA supporters following the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. He basically called them out for desperately trying to distance themselves from the alleged killer and exploit the tragedy for political gain – he put it pretty bluntly, saying they’d “hit some new lows” in the process. It was a pointed commentary, and clearly, someone upstairs wasn’t happy about it.
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr had strongly condemned comments made by Kimmel, calling them deeply disturbing, and hinted that the FCC could potentially take steps against Disney as a result.
After that, Nexstar, a major TV station owner, said it would stop showing Jimmy Kimmel’s show on its ABC stations for now. Sinclair Broadcast Group quickly did the same. ABC confirmed the show was suspended indefinitely, with reports indicating the decision came from Disney leaders Dana Walden and CEO Bob Iger.
Lindelof publicly praised Jimmy Kimmel, also acknowledging his wife, Molly, who is a head writer and, according to Lindelof, an even more impressive person than Jimmy himself. He described Jimmy as a caring, empathetic, and grateful individual who loves his country and has a great sense of humor – able to both deliver and receive playful insults. Lindelof also noted Jimmy’s support for his team during strikes, as well as his generosity, philanthropy, and, above all, his kindness.
He urged his followers to consider their reactions online, pointing out the important distinction between harmless jokes and harmful hate speech. He finished by expressing continued support for Jimmy, saying, “I believe you still do, and you’ve always been aware of your actions. Sending you love and support.”
