DC Comics is enjoying a very successful year. Their new Absolute line, which reimagined classic characters with a darker, more realistic edge, launched last year and quickly became popular. It started with *Absolute Batman #1* and expanded to include ongoing series for all of DC’s major heroes. Each first issue sold hundreds of thousands of copies and continued to perform well in 2025. Throughout much of the year, *Batman #158* was also a top-selling single issue, featuring a return to artwork by DC’s Jim Lee, continuing the story from his and Jeph Loeb’s famous *Hush* storyline.
As reported in *The Hollywood Reporter*, DC’s latest *Batman #1* comic has already sold over 500,000 copies. This number surpasses that of issue #158 and is expected to remain high for the rest of the year.
With the release of *Batman #1*, the iconic comic book series is only restarting with a new number one for the fourth time in its 84-year history. This new direction comes from writer Matt Fraction, known for his work on *Hawkeye* and *Monarch: Legacy of Monsters*, and artist Jorge Jimenez, a long-time collaborator with DC Comics. DC describes this new run as a fresh take on Gotham City, focusing more on Batman as a superhero, featuring a modern Batmobile, and a striking new blue and gray costume that promises a change in both the look and the stories being told.
The initial print run of *Batman #1* has completely sold out. A second print will be available in stores on October 15th. This comes before Batman Day on September 20th, a celebration of the iconic character. And that’s not the only highly anticipated Batman comic this year – the DC and Marvel team-up *Deadpool/Batman* #1 was just released. Now fans are hoping DC Studios will announce a new Batman project to complete the excitement.
