A popular post on the r/television subreddit, made by user QBin2017 and receiving over 4,700 upvotes, suggested that Disney’s actions were a restriction of free speech.

The decision by the FCC and ABC to suspend Kimmel for expressing opinions critical of Republicans is a clear overreach of authority and a violation of free speech principles. As a result, I will be canceling my Disney+ subscription to demonstrate my disapproval, hoping it will get their attention.

A Disney fan cancelled their cruise and hotel reservations, claiming Disney has lost its way. Meanwhile, others are criticizing the company for alienating people across the political spectrum.

Many on X pointed out the apparent contradiction: some liberals are now demanding boycotts in the name of “free speech,” despite previously defending the firings of personalities like Roseanne Barr and Gina Carano by Disney for expressing their political views.

Trump unites the left and right against Disney

The recent criticism shows unusual agreement from both sides of the political spectrum. Conservatives have consistently claimed Disney promotes liberal viewpoints in its shows and movies, and now some liberals are saying the company is suppressing their voices.

Jimmy Kimmel’s show was reportedly struggling with low ratings, costing Disney and ABC money – numbers dropped 11% in September alone. This financial performance was similar to Stephen Colbert’s, who was losing around $40 million annually before his show was cancelled.

What Happened to Charlie Kirk

On September 10, 2025, Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot while giving a speech at Utah Valley University. He was speaking to a large crowd as part of his “American Comeback Tour” when a sniper shot him in the neck from a rooftop approximately 200 yards away.

Tyler Robinson, age 22, has been arrested and charged with aggravated murder, along with other crimes. Prosecutors intend to pursue the death penalty, claiming Robinson intentionally attacked Kirk because of his political views and conservative statements.

Robinson is identified as a left-leaning individual and is in a relationship with someone who is transitioning to a woman.
