The next Batman movie is scheduled to come out on October 1, 2027. Matt Reeves will direct the film again, and he’s collaborating on the script with Mattson Tomlin.
Robert Pattinson is back as Batman, alongside Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin. The next movie will see Batman tackling a new mystery and discovering even more problems with crime and conflict in Gotham City, picking up after the stories told in the first film and *The Penguin* series.
The next installment was announced in April 2022, but making it was slowed down by the 2023 Hollywood strikes and the time Keanu Reeves spent perfecting the story. The script was finished in June, and filming is now planned to begin in late April or early May 2026 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in England.
In a recent interview on the *Happy Sad Confused* podcast, director Matt Reeves discussed his upcoming movie, particularly the villain. He explained that this villain is unlike any other seen in films before.
The movie will likely spend more time exploring Bruce Wayne’s personal struggles and relationships than showing Batman fighting crime.
Tommy Elliot is a strong candidate for the role of the villain Hush. He and Bruce Wayne were childhood friends, but Elliot developed a deep resentment towards the Wayne family after they intervened and prevented him from killing his father. Hush later discovers…
The Joker discovers Batman’s secret identity and tries to eliminate both Bruce Wayne and the masked hero. He goes to extreme lengths, even getting plastic surgery to look like Bruce Wayne himself.
The Court of Owls is another potential villainous group for the story. They’re a hidden society made up of Gotham’s richest people who secretly control the city using a network of trained assassins called Talons. Using them would let the story explore Gotham’s deep-rooted corruption while still feeling like a realistic crime thriller, which fits with the director’s plans for the next movie.
Matt Reeves has confirmed that Cristin Milioti won’t be returning as Sofia Falcone in *The Batman 2*. He explained that the storyline had progressed beyond her character by the time *The Penguin* series, for which she won an Emmy, was released.
Matt Reeves isn’t sure if he’ll make a third Batman movie, but he’s open to working on other projects within the DC Universe once he finishes with the Batman films.
