ABC Pulls JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE! ‘Indefinitely’ Following Threat From TV Station Giant Nexstar

Things are increasingly difficult in the United States for those who believe in free speech, fair elections, and civil discourse. We seem to be moving towards a media landscape with heavy censorship, where questioning authority is discouraged. Recently, Stephen Colbert learned his show would be canceled by CBS next year, but Jimmy Kimmel’s show, *Jimmy Kimmel Live!*, was canceled by ABC immediately and without a set return date, reportedly due to pressure from groups opposed to free speech.

Jimmy Kimmel has been a vocal critic of the current administration, and recently took aim at conservatives for what he sees as exploiting the murder of activist Charlie Kirk for political advantage. On his show Monday, Kimmel accused supporters of Donald Trump of trying to downplay the killer’s connection to their movement and using the tragedy to score political points. He also joked about Donald Trump avoiding questions about how he would acknowledge Kirk’s death.

After the feedback, Nexstar Media, a major TV station owner, announced it would stop showing Jimmy Kimmel Live! in the areas it serves. ABC followed up by saying it was suspending Kimmel’s show for an indefinite period.

At TopMob, we generally stay out of political issues, though each of us has our own personal beliefs. We strongly condemn all forms of violence, especially attacks based on someone’s beliefs. However, we believe it’s a dangerous trend for a large media company to cancel a TV show simply because they disagree with the show’s host – it harms the principles of a healthy democracy.

This situation demonstrates a suppression of free speech. It’s not about people being offended by insensitive remarks or jokes targeting the Trans community. Instead, it’s a major media company preventing critical viewpoints from being broadcast in a country that constitutionally protects free speech. While Jimmy Kimmel’s statements about Charlie Kirk may have been inappropriate, they were simply opinions expressed as jokes on a late-night show. Kimmel didn’t attack Kirk personally; he commented on how others were describing the suspect in a murder case.

As a movie lover, I believe strongly in fairness and truth, and honestly, it’s really tough to stay neutral when I see things that just aren’t right. It’s disheartening when people don’t stand up for the core values this country was built on, or when they think someone should be untouchable, beyond any kind of reasonable critique. Everyone should be held accountable, in my opinion.
