Vincent D’Onofrio has become known for his compelling portrayal of Wilson Fisk, also known as the Kingpin, in the *Daredevil* series and *Daredevil: Born Again*. He recently shared that legal issues previously stopped him from appearing as the Kingpin in major Marvel Cinematic Universe films, like a *Spider-Man* movie. However, even as his time playing New York’s Kingpin may be ending, D’Onofrio is looking towards DC Comics. Surprisingly, he’s interested in playing a hero, and he’s specifically expressed his desire to take on the role of the Swamp Thing, DC’s iconic and often sympathetic monster.
Yes he should

A fan on X (formerly Twitter) asked if actor Jon D’Onofrio should play the DC Comics character Elemental, and D’Onofrio enthusiastically agreed, saying, “Yes. He should.” D’Onofrio has often expressed his love for Swamp Thing, ranking him among his favorite comic book characters alongside Spider-Man and Batman. He’s repeatedly stated his desire to portray the character, as recently as April. While a *Swamp Thing* movie directed by James Mangold was announced by DC Studios in early 2023, the project is currently on hold. This could potentially open the door for D’Onofrio to get his wish. (We’re just making a playful joke about Swamp Thing being a plant, of course!)
Swamp Thing started as a horror comic book about Alec Holland, a smart scientist who turns into a frightening, yet sympathetic, creature. The character first appeared in the 1970s, but it was in the 1980s that writer Alan Moore – later famous for Watchmen – truly elevated the series. Moore’s work on Swamp Thing is considered a landmark achievement in comics. Over the years, Swamp Thing has been adapted for the screen several times, including a 1982 film directed by Wes Craven and a follow-up sequel. A cartoon series aired in the 1990s, and a well-received but brief TV show appeared on the DCU streaming service in 2019. While it’s uncertain if a new Swamp Thing movie will ever be made, we do know at least one talented actor is eager to play the role.
