A new trailer is out for *The Housemaid*, an upcoming psychological thriller from Lionsgate starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried.
This film is adapted from the popular novel by Freida McFadden and was directed by Paul Feig, the filmmaker behind movies such as *A Simple Favor*.
In the story, Sweeney portrays Millie Calloway, a young woman haunted by her past, who becomes a live-in housekeeper for the affluent Winchester family.
The new film starts with an idyllic setting, but Millie quickly discovers the family living there is keeping troubling secrets. Amanda Seyfried stars as the enigmatic wife, Nina Winchester, and Brandon Sklenar plays her husband, Andrew. The film also features Michele Morrone as Enzo, the groundskeeper, Elizabeth Perkins as Andrew’s mother Evelyn, and Mark Grossman as Millie’s former boyfriend, Scott.

Lionsgate first announced the project in 2024, and it’s been developing ever since. Todd Lieberman, Paul Feig, and Laura Fischer are producing, while Sydney Sweeney, Karen Seyfried, and author Freida McFadden are executive producers. The movie is based on McFadden’s 2022 novel and was adapted for the screen by Rebecca Sonnenshine.
The main actors were confirmed starting in late 2024, with Anya Sweeney and Florence Seyfried leading the cast. Brandon Sklenar joined shortly after, and by the end of the year, Simone Morrone had also signed on. Elizabeth Perkins was added to the cast in September.
Production began in New Jersey in January and wrapped up in March. Theodore Shapiro, a frequent collaborator with the director, is creating the music for the film.
Lionsgate is releasing the movie *The Housemaid* in U.S. theaters on December 19th. The release date was initially Christmas Day, but it’s been moved up to December 19th.
