Bethesda Faces Backlash After Posting Video Mocking Charlie Kirk Assassination

Bethesda is facing criticism after briefly posting a gameplay clip on X (formerly Twitter) that contained a political message. This happened shortly after the death of Charlie Kirk last Wednesday, and the post was quickly removed.

The Deleted Video

I saw this really strange thing on Bethesda’s X account – a short clip of a character petting a cat with the text, “You don’t care much about these Fascists, do you?” It was up for just a little while before they took it down, but people shared it everywhere before that happened. It was definitely a weird moment and a lot of us are talking about it!

Community Reaction

Gaming commentator Mark Kern (Grummz) called out Bethesda directly, writing:

Okay, so I’m hearing Bethesda quickly took down a post – did anyone else see it before it disappeared? I really think they shouldn’t be able to just sweep things under the rug like that. If some social media person over there made a risky move, they need to be held accountable, and the company needs to address it with a proper statement.

As a huge cinema and gaming fan, I was shocked to see the fallout from that deleted post. It really seemed like a direct reference to the attack on Charlie Kirk, and things got even stranger when the FBI revealed evidence from the scene. Apparently, one of the shell casings had the phrase “Hey fascist! Catch!” written on it – and get this, it also referenced a tactic from the game *Helldivers 2* involving a 500KG bomb! It’s just…wild to see gaming culture intersect with something so serious like that.

According to reports, Tyler Robinson, accused of attempting to harm Charlie Kirk, was dating someone who is transitioning to female and involved in the furry fandom.

Bethesda’s video featuring a cat and fascist remarks syncs with those reports.

Bethesda Producer’s Comments Surface

The situation became even more contentious when screenshots surfaced online showing a Bethesda producer making insensitive posts about Charlie Kirk on Bluesky. These posts seemed to ridicule people who were mourning Kirk’s death, highlight opinions that labeled him an extremist, and share comments suggesting there was no need to offer condolences.

One popular post shared the sentiment: “You don’t have to grieve for those who wouldn’t have grieved for you.” Another highlighted how people often expect others to share their specific sorrows, and no others.

The producer, who works at Bethesda Game Studios, made several posts suggesting that the political environment Kirk helped create led to his assassination.

Fallout for Bethesda

Bethesda, the company behind popular games like *The Elder Scrolls* and *Fallout*, hasn’t officially responded to this situation. However, old social media posts from a producer, along with a removed video, are leading people to accuse the company of allowing political bias among its employees.

DC Comics has stopped publishing a comic book written by a transgender author after the author made statements that sparked debate.

Sucker Punch has also fired a game developer.

Stephen King recently deleted controversial remarks.
