SEGA Sonic and IDW Artist Gigi Dutreix Celebrates Charlie Kirk’s Death

A controversy is growing in the comics and gaming world after artist Gigi Dutreix, known for her work on *Sonic the Hedgehog* comics with SEGA and IDW Publishing, publicly expressed support for the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

Spotify Playlist Post

Someone shared a screenshot online of numerous Spotify playlists named “Charlie Kirk is Dead.” These playlists appeared to make fun of and celebrate the idea of the conservative activist’s death.

The post spread rapidly online, causing a negative reaction from both Sonic fans and readers of IDW Publishing comics.

Sonic & IDW Connections

As a big fan of the Sonic comics, I know artist Dutreix did some fantastic work for IDW Publishing on the series. It’s cool to see such talent contributing to one of SEGA’s most iconic franchises!

The artist was featured in an interview called “Creator Corner” in Sonic the Hedgehog comic #76, published by IDW. The interview showcased their artwork to readers.

Dutreix has also done work on My Little Pony and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Controversial Work

Look, I was really surprised to learn that the artist behind the Sonic comic, Dutreix, also creates another, very different comic. It’s an adult-oriented, gender-exploring work, and what’s really troubling is that it features characters who appear to be quite young – reports say as young as 11 or 12. What makes this even more bizarre is that their work on this other comic was actually *mentioned* in connection with their official Sonic feature. It’s a really unsettling connection, to be honest.

Larger Fallout

The reaction from Dutreix praising Kirk’s death follows a pattern of consequences for similar statements. DC Comics recently fired writer Gretchen Felker-Martin, and Drew Harrison, the developer of *Ghost of Yotei*, was also let go from their position after making comments about Kirk.

Stephen King also apologized for remarks.

Elon Musk publicly criticized Microsoft, and the head of Epic Games has recently faced scrutiny for making questionable statements.

Newly released information indicates that Tyler Robins, the person accused of attacking Charlie Kirk, identifies as left-leaning and is in a relationship with someone who is transitioning genders.
