The New York Post is reporting, as I’ve been saying for a while, that Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is preparing to sell the company and is hoping to attract multiple bidders to drive up the price.
Years ago, sources at Comic-Con shared with me that David Zaslav intended to break up Warner Bros. to sell it off, keeping Discovery for himself. Now, everything is happening just as they predicted.
According to *The Post*, David Ellison’s Skydance is getting ready to make a multi-billion dollar offer for Warner Bros. Discovery, but David Zaslav, the current CEO, doesn’t intend to simply wait and see what happens.
Reports suggest Zaslav is now working with Goldman Sachs to find potential buyers for the company, reaching out to companies like Amazon, Apple, and Netflix, as we previously discussed.
Netflix Still in the Running to Buy Warner Bros. and DC
This lines up with what insiders and analysts have been pointing out.
Netflix is frequently discussed as a potential buyer of Warner Bros. A recent *Variety* report highlighted that Wells Fargo analyst Steven Cahall considers Netflix the leading candidate, even over other large technology and media companies.
Warner Bros. Discovery plans to split its business in 2026, dividing its studio and streaming services from its traditional TV networks. This creates an opportunity for Netflix-or another major company-to acquire valuable assets like the Warner Bros. studio, HBO, DC Comics, and sports rights for leagues like the NBA and NFL.
Paramount Skydance Faces Competition From Tech Giants
The NY Post reports that David Zaslav wants to increase Warner Bros. Discovery’s stock price to $40 a share. The stock price rose almost 30% on Thursday after news of Larry Ellison’s offer became public, ending the day at a little over $16. If the final offer isn’t high enough, sources say Zaslav plans to use the increased stock value to purchase more content.
Skydance hasn’t formally submitted its offer yet. Sources say Zaslav thinks Ellison is making a quick bid to get ahead of other potential buyers and influence the overall sale process.
The report indicates that David Zaslav believes any strong offer from Skydance will need to be primarily in cash, particularly to compete with well-funded tech giants such as Apple and Netflix.
What it could mean?
As we discussed, if Netflix were to acquire Warner Bros., that would mean they’d also own DC Comics. This raises the possibility of Zack Snyder returning to work on DC projects. Sources familiar with the situation have long suggested that Zack could rejoin DC whenever he chooses.
I’ve also been told that whoever buys WB will “probably” stick with Gunn’s new DCU.
If Skydance acquires Warner Bros. Discovery, popular franchises like Star Trek, Top Gun, and Transformers would become part of the same portfolio as Harry Potter, Batman, and Superman.
Netflix currently lacks its own major superhero franchises. Acquiring Warner Bros., and with it, DC Comics, would significantly boost Netflix’s rivalry with Disney. Adding the Harry Potter series to Netflix would undoubtedly be a massive success.
