Henry Cavill Injured, Highlander Filming Delayed

It appears that Henry Cavill sustained an injury during his preparatory training for ‘Highlander’, causing a delay in the commencement of filming for the Amazon MGM reboot, which is being helmed by Chad Stahelski.

Based on Deadline’s report, it seems that the release date might shift to early 2026 due to Cavill’s recovery. The details regarding the nature of his injury remain undisclosed.

Cavill’s Previous Injury

It’s not a new situation for the actor to take a break; back in 2021, an injury to Cavill’s hamstring during the filming of The Witcher Season 2 in the UK led to a substantial hold-up in production.

The Cast and Crew

The movie “Highlander” features Superman actor Henry Cavill portraying Connor MacLeod, while Russell Crowe takes on the role of Ramirez. Additionally, Dave Bautista stars as Kurgan, with Marisa Abela, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, and Max Zhang also joining the cast.

The script originates from Michael Finch, and is produced by Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt from UA, Neal H. Moritz, Stahelski’s 87Eleven Entertainment, Davis Panzer Productions, and Louise Rosner.

In simpler terms, Chad Stahelski’s version of Highlander brings back the timeless tale of immortal fighters who clash throughout history, culminating in an epic showdown for supreme authority.

The Franchise Legacy

United Artists acquired exclusive rights for the 1986 original from Lionsgate, allowing them the opportunity to create a new television series as well as Stahelski’s movie.

The initial Highlander movie, helmed by Russell Mulcahy, featured Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery in leading roles. Over time, it evolved into a beloved cult favorite, resulting in subsequent films, an extended television series starring Adrian Paul, and a dedicated fan base.

Cavill’s Busy Slate

Though Highlander might be experiencing delays, Cavill continues to have several films in progress. He has completed Voltron, a project with Guy Ritchie titled In the Grey, and Enola Holmes 3 for Netflix.

Last year, he appeared in Deadpool & Wolverine, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and Argylle.

He’s also reportedly linked to the Marvel series, Nova, and IMDb credits him with work on Broadsword and The Rosie Project.

There are rumors he’ll appear in the Marvel Nova series, and IMDb mentions his involvement in both Broadsword and The Rosie Project.
