It was announced that Drew Harrison, a prominent character artist at Sucker Punch Productions, was let go from her position due to remarks she made praising the death of conservative figurehead Charlie Kirk.
What Happened
Upon hearing about Kirk’s unfortunate passing, I felt compelled to express my condolences on Bluesky, saying: “I can only hope that the perpetrator is named Mario, so Luigi knows his brother stands by him in this tough time.” However, this lighthearted comment seemed to stir controversy online, resulting in a wave of indignation and demands for Sony and Sucker Punch to intervene.
Fired From Sucker Punch
In subsequent messages on BlueSky, Harrison affirmed that she had been let go from her position. She expressed this sentiment: “If taking a stand against fascism meant losing the job I held for a decade, I would make that choice a hundred times over with even greater resolve.
Upon being inquired about financial assistance, Harrison politely refused, instead advocating, “I don’t require any funds! Instead, consider supporting games like Ghost of Yotei, a fantastic production made by 200 individuals I hold dear. Let’s direct our contributions towards families in Gaza, the Trevor Project, or ACLU instead.

Background
As one of the vital contributors at Sucker Punch, I took pride in being recognized as a senior staff character texture and look development artist on Sony’s Ghost of Tsushima. Now, I’m excited to be part of the team working on Ghost of Yotei, our upcoming project. Before joining this dynamic team, I honed my skills at ILM and Rhythm & Hues.
The termination of her position occurred subsequent to another uproar within the entertainment world, as DC Comics had earlier decided to halt the production of Gretchen Felker-Martin’s Red Hood series following her public display of joy over Kirk’s demise on social media.
Ghosts of Yotei is due out on October 2nd.
What Happened to Charlie Kirk
At Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was tragically killed during an event he was hosting. Reports indicate that he was shot on stage, and President Donald Trump later announced his passing. Governor Spencer Cox of Utah referred to the incident as a “political murder,” and federal agents have launched a search for the suspect, releasing pictures for public assistance in identifying him.
