According to James Gunn’s confirmation, it appears that the upcoming movie titled “Superman: Man of Tomorrow” is likely to feature an unusual alliance between Superman and Lex Luthor as they find themselves compelled to team up against a common, formidable adversary.
On The Howard Stern Show, Gunn explained that the tale centers around Lex Luthor and Superman needing to collaborate somewhat due to a formidable enemy. However, he added that it’s not as straightforward as it seems.
Gunn stated, ‘Lex’s story is just as much a part of Lex Luthor’s movie as it is a Superman film. I find myself identifying with his character, unfortunately.’
Filming Timeline
The filmmaker, Gunn, provided some insight regarding the timeline for the production of the Superman sequel, mentioning, “I’ve mostly finished writing the Superman sequel we plan to start shooting in April. At this point, it’s just a matter of getting ready to begin production.”
Lex’s motivation
Gunn further elaborated on Lex’s driving force: “Three years back, before Superman appeared, Lex was admired as the world’s best, even surrounded by other metahumans and superheroes. But suddenly, this individual donned a goofy costume, flashed dimples, a captivating smile, and an impressive jawline, and he was instantly forgotten.

Superman and Lex Team-Up
Earlier, Gunn affirmed that he had wrapped up all phases of a complete storyline, which he refers to as the “Superman Series,” comprising of four films.
In the upcoming sequel, David Corenswet reprises his role as Clark Kent while Nicholas Hoult takes on Lex Luthor. The storyline suggests that these two adversaries will join forces to combat a shared enemy, sparking rumors about the possible introduction of Brainiac in the DC Universe for the first time.

readers have been speculating for some time now that either Brainiac or Mongul pose a greater danger, given that initial sketches (displayed extensively in this piece) seem to suggest an initial conflict between Superman and Lex Luthor, followed by an alliance.
Gunn’s endorsement lends credence to those theories. Additionally, it’s worth noting that Brainiac was initially introduced in the post-credits scene of Superman, and a supplementary video released after the movie features a storyboard of Brainiac.
As a die-hard movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that the much-anticipated film titled “Man of Tomorrow” is set to grace the silver screen on July 9, 2027. This exciting addition follows the captivating tale of Supergirl in June 2026 and the enigmatic Clayface in September 2026. Can’t wait!

The Superman Saga
The movie featuring Superman has amassed more than $614 million at the box office so far. Previously, Gunn highlighted that this sequel isn’t just a continuation of “Superman 2,” but an extension of a broader storyline he is developing for the DC Universe. Interestingly, it seems that this new installment will also delve into the character of Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor.
Following the news that Superman and Lex Luthor are joining forces to confront a greater menace, spectators may anticipate an increase in discussions on potential villains lurking ahead, such as Brainiac, Mongul, or others.
