Paradox keeps having to apologize for quality issues

Paradox Interactive has expressed regret to the players of Crusader Kings 3 regarding the issues encountered with their latest expansion pack, titled Coronations. Upon release, this DLC was found to contain significant bugs and imbalances in its content, leading many players to question whether any testing had taken place before launch.

In addition to releasing a fix to address certain problems, Paradox also posted an apology message penned by their quality assurance lead.

To put it simply for Paradox enthusiasts, the message conveyed something they might already recognize: “I apologize,” the Quality Assurance (QA) Manager admitted. “The game ‘Coronations’ did not live up to the high standards you expect, and I take responsibility for that. As the QA Manager for our studio, it is my duty to ensure our releases align with our predefined quality standards. It’s clear we didn’t provide the project with the necessary resources and focus, leading to a release that fell short of your expectations. You have every reason to be disappointed, and I want to openly acknowledge this disappointment.

As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that the majority of our resources are being invested in the highly anticipated All Under Heaven DLC. This expansive addition promises to extend the game’s boundaries right up to the shores of Japan, offering an exciting new journey for us players.

Although I am immensely proud of our development team for achieving so much with limited resources, it’s unfortunate that we didn’t allocate enough personnel to manage the release and ensure the quality that our fans deserve. This oversight was unfair not only to them but also to you, our dedicated supporters.

Paraphrasing: Paradox aims to take action to prevent similar issues from arising in the future. They plan to be more rigid when it comes to last-minute changes, which seem to have led to much of the fan conflict. Additionally, they intend to spend more time on comprehensive playthroughs during development.

When offering specific solutions for improvement is beneficial and appreciated, it’s important to remember that players might find these suggestions familiar, especially since there was a series of problematic launches last year. In the past, Paradox leadership had conducted an introspective interview acknowledging their mistakes, yet reassuring us that corrective actions would follow.

Approximately a year ago, the company resumed publishing apology statements, which is unfortunate given their reputation as one of the standout innovators within the industry. Trust from players is a precious commodity, and Paradox appears to have squandered a significant amount of it.
