In the movie, a young priest named Jud Duplenticy, portrayed by Josh O’Connor, is working with Monsignor Jefferson Wicks, played by Josh Brolin, who is a captivating religious leader overseeing a church facing certain challenges. Wicks’ congregation comprises individuals such as the devoted Martha Delacroix (Glenn Close), the cautious groundskeeper Samson Holt (Thomas Haden Church), the reserved lawyer Vera Draven, Esq. (Kerry Washington), the politically ambitious Cy Draven (Daryl McCormack), the town doctor Nat Sharp (Jeremy Renner), a successful author Lee Ross (Andrew Scott), and a talented cellist Simone Vivane (Cailee Spaeny). Quite an eclectic group, you might say.
Following a sermon, Wicks retreats to a solitary room, enclosed by stone, alone. A mere sixty seconds later, he’s found deceased. It seems that someone falls short of the moral standard God desires. Local police chief Geraldine Scott (portrayed by Mila Kunis) summons Blanc to the crime scene to aid in identifying the murderer.
