Netflix has released a preview of the debut trailer for “Last Samurai Standing”, a new six-episode series that combines history, drama, and action, inspired by Shōgo Imamura’s “Ikusagami” novels.

In this rephrased version, let’s say: The trailer immerses viewers in a fierce battle royale set during the Meiji era, where 292 combatants gather at Tenryūji Temple in Kyoto as twilight falls, each armed with a single tag. Their mission is to either capture or protect this tag while racing towards Tokyo in a dangerous pursuit. The production, which took multiple days and over a thousand people to complete, combines advanced CGI and practical effects masterfully. This temple brawl, directed by Michihito Fujii and starring Junichi Okada, is anticipated to deliver some of the most intense action sequences ever aired on Japanese TV.

In addition to Okada’s main role and management tasks, the recent announcement introduces a fresh crop of actors to the project. Gaku Hamada is set to play Superintendent General Toshiyoshi Kawaji, Taiiku Okazaki will embody swordsman Jinroku Keage, Arata Iura takes on the character of Home Minister Toshimichi Okubo, Tetsushi Tanaka steps into the role of Bureau of Communications chief Hisoka Maejima, and Ayumu Nakajima completes the cast as Okubo’s secretary Shinpei Nagase. This brings together an already impressive cast, which includes Yūmia Fujisaka, Kaya Kiyohara, Masahiro Higashide, and Kazunari Ninomiya, into a tense drama of honor, deceit, and survival.

The upcoming series titled “The Last Samurai Standing” is scheduled to debut on November 13, featuring 6 episodes. These episodes can only be found on Netflix.
