Once again, Vince Gilligan, the mastermind behind “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul,” has returned to give us a fresh television show on Apple TV+.

As a captivated movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share my anticipation for an upcoming series titled “Pluribus” (stylized as PLUR1BUS). This intriguing show boasts Rhea Seehorn in the leading role, a talented actress whom many will recognize from her work alongside Gilligan as Kim Wexler in “Better Call Saul.”

In a fantastic turn of events, Apple Television Plus has already greenlit not one, but two seasons for this promising production. Mark your calendars for November 7, the premiere date for the first season. I can hardly wait to immerse myself in Rhea’s latest performance and witness what “Pluribus” has in store for us!

In my perspective, I’m drawn to a captivating narrative that unfolds in the vibrant city of Albuquerque. This story introduces us to the intriguing character of Carol Sturka, skillfully portrayed by Seehorn. Carol is a renowned author of romantic literature, yet she humbly downplays her own work, occasionally labeling it with a charming self-deprecation as “lighthearted fluff.

During her book promotion tour, an unusual incident disrupts Carol’s life. A virus emerges in the city, spreading rapidly, but unlike typical viruses, it causes those infected to become perpetually cheerful and optimistic instead of harming them. However, Carol remains unaffected by this joyous epidemic.

In simpler terms, her immune system poses a challenge as much as it’s a responsibility. She finds herself in a realm where others seem to revel in joy, leaving her feeling dismal, irritable, and perplexed.

Gilligan explained to Entertainment Weekly that the series centers around the struggle of the gloomiest character trying tirelessly to prevent the world from becoming joyful. He mentioned that even though the narrative tackles profound themes, there’s also a good deal of humor involved in it. Carol is portrayed as an unwilling hero, who doesn’t seek responsibility but feels compelled to take action.

Gilligan explained when questioned about Carol’s immunity, stating that they might never discover a definitive explanation for it.

I don’t want to spoil anything, but we might or might not discover the solution. A more precise way for me to say this is that I never really thought of it as a puzzle to be solved. Instead, I just assumed there must exist someone extraordinarily talented, and that person turns out to be Carol.

As a devoted cinephile, I’ve always carried the seed of an intriguing concept in my mind, nurturing it even amidst my duties on Better Call Saul. During my brief respites, I found myself taking lengthy strolls, lost in thoughts of a realm where no one could be hurt by insults or discomfort, and where unending kindness was the norm. I confessed that I hadn’t fully grasped its essence back then, and I must admit, even now, I’m still pondering its true meaning.

The initial season spans over nine episodes, starting with the first two premiering together, followed by a fresh installment every Friday until December 26, 2025.

With Seehorn on the cast, we also have Karolina Wydra playing Zosia and Carlos Manuel Vesga portraying Manusos. Miriam Shor and Samba Schutte are set to make special appearances.

The production encountered some setbacks, as the 2023 writer’s strike caused a halt, with operations resuming again in October of the same year.

Filming for the show started in February 2024, in Albuquerque, and concluded in September 2024, marking seven months of production. During most of this period, the show was referred to as ‘Wycaro 339’. However, it wasn’t until July 2025 that Apple unveiled the official title, which is ‘Pluribus’, along with its release date.

In a distinct shift from his previous crime dramas, the new production titled “Pluribus” blends elements of science fiction, drama, and dark comedy, setting it apart with a unique flavor. Yet, it retains the filmmaker’s signature approach of delving into intriguing universes through complex characters.
