James Gunn’s Superman Leak: Brainiac Was In The Post-Credits

According to James Gunn’s announcement, the sequel titled “Man of Tomorrow” is scheduled to hit theaters on July 9, 2027. However, Nerdrotic suggests that Brainiac was originally intended to make an appearance in a post-credit scene in the initial Superman movie.

In simpler terms, the YouTube source implies that Gunn might have chosen to delay Brainiac’s first appearance, moving it from the original show to the future Supergirl film, set to release on June 26, 2026.

Adding “Supergirl” to our narrative seems to naturally transition us towards “Man of Tomorrow“, featuring Brainiac – a point we’ve recently discussed.

What did Nerdrotic say about Brainiac?

It’s believed that the Brainiac post-credit scene was initially intended for a preview screening of Superman, but James Gunn ultimately chose not to include it. This claim is supported by Gary Buechler from Nerdrotic and Chris Gore from Film Threat.

It seems as though during our conversation, we learned about a person who mentioned there were two extra scenes after the credits initially, but these didn’t make it into the final film cut. One of these scenes reportedly featured Brainiac, and perhaps this scene was transferred to the Supergirl movie instead.

Brainiac Post-Credit Rumor

Based on discussions at Nerdrotic, it appears that the plan is intended to position Brainiac as a more significant cosmic menace within the DC Universe after Lex Luthor’s debut in “Superman.

It’s plausible to infer that the depiction could hint at a potential collaboration between Superman and his cousin Kara Zor-El, possibly against Brainiac, aligning with the imagery from the Superman trailer (shown above).

If accurate, such a scenario aligns well with Gunn’s strategic vision for connected narratives spanning films and series. The space-set Supergirl provides an ideal platform to introduce a formidable antagonist like Brainiac.

Ties To Man of Tomorrow

There’s quite a buzz that the upcoming movie, “Man of Tomorrow“, might depict Superman and Lex Luthor being pushed together in an unlikely partnership due to a larger menace they both must face.

Over the review, the authorities hinted at a scene of Superman facing off against Lex Luthor, donned in his armor, with spectators speculating that Brainiac or Mongul might be inciting their alliance.

As a cinephile, I’m excited about the rumored transition of the Brainiac scene towards Supergirl. This potential move could act as a compelling bridge, seamlessly connecting the narrative of Supergirl and setting the stage for Man of Tomorrow the following year.

What’s Next For The DCU?

Currently, it’s been clarified that “Man of Tomorrow” isn’t a straight follow-up to “Superman,” instead, it belongs to the broader narrative known as Gunn’s “Superman Saga.

He’s completed his treatments on the upcoming narrative, subtly suggesting a major DC Universe antagonist who may connect all the plot threads, potentially being none other than Brainiac.
