James Gunn’s ‘Superman’ Sequel Locks Release Date and First Cast Members

The news was initially shared by Gunn himself on social media platforms, complete with the title and scheduled release date. Additionally, he uploaded an amusing comic illustration depicting Superman standing alongside Lex Luthor, both wearing armored suits.

In the narrative, it’s clear that Luthor assumes a significant position, and fans of the comics will identify the armor as one of Luthor’s formidable tools. In the comic book universe, this suit, known as the Warsuit, was engineered to grant him power comparable to Superman.

The upcoming sequel seems set to further the ongoing conflict between Superman and Lex Luthor, as it appears that Luthor is gearing up for a head-on clash, having previously been unsuccessful in defeating Superman using a clone in Gunn’s initial film.

Warner Bros. Discovery is capitalizing on the significant global box-office success of the initial Superman film, which raked in over $611 million worldwide this past summer, becoming the highest-grossing superhero movie of the year.

Due to that impressive performance, CEO David Zaslav personally confirmed in August that Gunn will be reinstated for both writing and directing duties on the sequel.

The film titled ‘Man of Tomorrow’ is set for release in 2027, however, it won’t be the sole DC production. In fact, the studio has planned two other movies that will hit the screens in 2026.

Option A: “Supergirl” is a space-themed adventure movie that Craig Gillespie has directed, featuring Milly Alcock in the lead role.

Option B: “Clayface,” on the other hand, is a darker production, categorized as a body horror film. James Watkins directs this flick, with Tom Rhys Harries and Naomi Ackie in the main roles.

Recently, Gunn mentioned that the draft for the upcoming Superman movie has already begun. During an appearance on Threads, he revealed he’s heavily engrossed in the writing process and suggested that the follow-up might have a collaborative, team-oriented feel rather than just a straightforward continuation.

Moreover, Zaslav referred to Superman and the future series as elements of a broader “Super-Clan,” suggesting that DC intends to construct a unified world centered around these iconic figures.
