Audience members get a glimpse of actor Tom Rhys Harries portraying Matt Hagen in the upcoming DC movie ‘Clayface’, following the disclosure of images from the film’s set.
The pictures reveal Harries undergoing partial transformation into a villain made of clay, hinting at the movie’s darker, genre-bending style that incorporates elements of body horror. DC Film News posted these images online on X, and you can view them by following this link.
In simpler terms, the upcoming third film in the DC Universe (DCU) is named Clayface. This movie is directed by James Watkins, with scripts penned by both Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini. In Clayface, Harry takes on the title role, while Naomi Ackie portrays a scientist who assists him after a gangster leaves him disfigured.
The narrative focuses on an actor seeking assistance from a particular character portrayed by Ackie, ultimately resulting in a remarkable change.
As a passionate movie enthusiast, I’d like to share some interesting insights about an upcoming project that’s stirring excitement within the film community. In March 2023, the visionary mind of Mike Flanagan proposed a chilling Clayface horror concept to DC Films, and it was well received. This intriguing idea is now being brought to life by none other than James Gunn and Peter Safran from DC Studios, along with Matt Reeves and Lynn Harris. Their collective expertise promises an unforgettable cinematic experience that I eagerly await!
The DC Studios approved the project officially in December 2024, but Flanagan couldn’t direct due to scheduling issues, so Watkins stepped in as director in February 2025. Amini started reworking the script in May, and Harries was brought on board in June. Further casting decisions were made over the following months.
Principal photography commenced on August 31, 2025, in Liverpool, England, operating under the temporary name ‘Corinthians’. Scenes shot on location have encompassed Derby Square and the previous Merseyside Police headquarters, where Gotham-inspired vehicles are being stored.
In the Law Courts building, they filmed scenes that were supposed to take place in Gotham Hospital. The production for this is happening at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden. Rob Hardy, who was involved with the DC Universe film Supergirl (2026), is overseeing the cinematography.
Clayface is set for U.S. release on September 11, 2026, as part of DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. This film offers a new, grittier interpretation of the famous antagonist, with Harries’ metamorphosis serving as the core plot point.
