Elder Scrolls Modder Is Adding Morrowind to Elden Ring

A user is currently designing a modification (mod) aimed at integrating the setting and storyline of “The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind” with FromSoftware’s “Elden Ring.” Since its release in 2002, “Morrowind” has been widely recognized as one of the best games ever made, with numerous Game of the Year accolades. Despite being almost flawless initially, the game has certainly shown its age after more than two decades. As we await an official remastering, enthusiasts are consistently developing mods and conversions to help update this classic RPG for contemporary gamers.

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but rave about two incredible mods for “Morrowind”. Firstly, there’s “Project Tamriel” which is on a mission to merge all of Tamriel into the game world and timeline of the third “Elder Scrolls”, while maintaining the original lore that got tweaked in “Oblivion” and “Skyrim”. It’s like stepping into an expansive, untouched corner of Tamriel.

Secondly, there’s “Tamriel Rebuilt”, a mod that breathes new life into “The Elder Scrolls 3” by adding the entire Morrowind mainland for players to explore. It’s not just about expanding the game world, but also preserving the game’s lore and introducing fresh cities, characters, and tales waiting to be uncovered. These mods are a testament to the passion and creativity of the Elder Scrolls community.

Elden Ring and The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind Meet Thanks to a Mod

A YouTuber named InfernoPlus is working on a modification for Elden Ring that aims to transfer the full experience of The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind into the Elden Ring game engine. Essentially, this means updating the graphics and controls while preserving the combat style typical of a Souls game. This project was initially intended as a port into Dark Souls 3, but it has since evolved to be adapted for Elden Ring instead. The mod is roughly halfway completed at the moment.

In a few YouTube videos, InfernoPlus provided a glimpse of the current development progress, and it’s evident that the Morrowind port has been enhanced by Elden Ring’s advanced lighting and weather systems. Each area in the vast Morrowind map has its unique ambiance. For instance, the Ashlands are characterized by their gray and gloomy skies, while the Bitter Coast is marked by swampy and rain-soaked landscapes. Additionally, InfernoPlus took this opportunity to transform Bethesda RPG’s common swamps into the menacing FromSoftware poisonous marshes.

Although Morrowind has been effectively transitioned into Elden Ring’s engine, it’s important to note that the mod remains in progress, and InfernoPlus is seeking help to finish it off. As of now, gameplay is absent, and updates are required for clothing and armor, with a focus on giving them a more contemporary feel. Additionally, the Soulslike bosses need to be adapted to fit the style and atmosphere of Morrowind.

As the eagerly anticipated project progresses, fans can explore various other mods in the meantime, many of which strive to enhance the graphics of the classic game or expand the explorable region of Morrowind for a more polished and immersive experience. Some mods, such as “Lyithdonea – The Azurian Isles,” fill in gaps on the map, providing players with additional locations grounded in the rich lore of The Elder Scrolls to discover.
