StarCraft 2’s Archon mode inspired Dawn of War 4’s co-op campaign

The highly anticipated game titled “Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4” is set to release in 2026, offering a variety of game modes for players. This includes campaigns for all four factions, which can be enjoyed either solo or in cooperation with another player. Before the chance to test out this upcoming real-time strategy (RTS) game at Gamescom 2025, DBLTAP was present at a brief developer presentation. During this event, King Art Games disclosed that their co-op campaign was heavily influenced by the popular strategy title, StarCraft 2.

In the launch of Legacy of the Void, the third part of the real-time strategy (RTS) trilogy, Blizzard Entertainment unveiled a cooperative play mode called Archon mode in StarCraft II. Instead of players commanding separate factions, they jointly control a single faction’s resources and units, marking an unique feature at the time.

Despite Archon mode losing popularity compared to the conventional cooperative mode in the game, it’s clear that Archon mode plays a significant role in StarCraft II’s enduring legacy on its own terms. The co-op campaign mode in Dawn of War 4 will draw inspiration from Archon mode.

It appears that King Art hasn’t disclosed specifics about the new feature, but it seems they are planning for players to join campaigns together, allowing them to split control over their factions with friends. This setup is designed to reduce the pressure of command and offer a more sociable gaming experience.

As a die-hard fan of the Dawn of War series, I’m beyond excited to jump back into the action with Dawn of War 4! Just like the good old days, you can expect the classic multiplayer and skirmish modes that we all love. But Can’t wait to test my skills in these epic battles again!
