Director Jake Schreier is now working on the X-Men reboot by Marvel, and he believes that his previous work on Thunderbolts has adequately prepared him for this project.
Schreier Talks Starting on X-Men
Speaking to Empire, Schreier confirmed he’s officially working on the X-Men reboot.
Schreier commented that while he can’t disclose any specific details, a project related to the X-Men has been initiated, undeniably generating a lot of excitement.
As a passionate movie buff eagerly anticipating the next chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I find myself embarking on an exciting journey with the mutants set to take center stage post-“Avengers: Secret Wars”. I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be diving headfirst into one of Marvel Studios’ most monumental projects to date.
Lessons From Thunderbolts*
Schreier shared that his debut Marvel venture, the ‘Thunderbolts’ project, showed him the art of blending character-focused narratives with epic actions.
He mentioned, “I discovered countless new aspects about [Thunderbolts] as I delved into it. The most challenging part for me was striking the right balance between action sequences and scenes focused on character development… As we neared the end, it seemed like we were finally starting to grasp how to handle these elements effectively.
His previous experience will significantly shape how he handles the character dynamics in the X-Men movie, a team-based production much like managing various characters and plots.
Where X-Men Stands
Kevin Feige has already confirmed the script is in progress, with Michael Lesslie writing.
Feige hinted that Marvel might soon choose relatively unknown, younger actors for their roles within the X-Men franchise, focusing more on the fresh, up-and-coming talent that represents the next generation.
It seems that Marvel still has an available release date in 2027, but according to Variety, the new X-Men movie is not expected to debut until at least 2028, and possibly even later.
It’s confirmed that actors and characters from the Fox Marvel films will appear in “Avengers: Doomsday”, and production on the second season of “X-Men ’97” for Disney+ has been initiated.
