Fans of Doctor Who tend to either adore or dislike the query about their favorite Doctor. I believe it’s a rather dull question, often serving as a test to evaluate some fans’ knowledge and to create an exclusive atmosphere. However, that’s a topic for another discussion altogether. A more engaging question could be asking someone about their preferred TARDIS crew. The response might range from the Fourth Doctor with Sarah Jane Smith to the Tenth Doctor with Donna Noble, depending on when you started watching the show. One team that fans always seem eager for more is Eleven (the Doctor), Rory, and Amy. In fact, if you ask Karen Gillan, she would only rejoin Doctor Who if that trio is on screen.
It’s common knowledge that Amy and Rory left the show “Doctor Who” when a Weeping Angel sent them back in time, an event that left the Eleventh Doctor devastated, leading him into a depressed state until he met Clara Oswald. As of now, Amy and Rory are no longer alive. However, as reported by Collider, during a recent interview with BBC’s “The One Show,” Karen Gillan expressed her interest in returning to “Doctor Who.” She said, “If they invite me, definitely yes! But only if Matt Smith and Arthur Darvill are there too.
1. Is this trio to my liking? Indeed, it is.
2. Am I convinced that just about anything can unfold in ‘Doctor Who’? Undoubtedly. Remember when the Doctor transformed into a face identical to Rose Tyler’s visage? And isn’t it always a bit confusing with time travel and those potential loopholes?
3. Do I feel this transformation or event should occur or is necessary? It seems unlikely, probably not.
If the show intends to carry on, it ought to prioritize its efforts. It should aim to develop fresh characters, further evolve the Doctor, and create robust new narratives and storylines. A touch of past references is fine, but please refrain from constantly reviving old characters merely for nostalgia’s sake.
As a film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to see that Karen Gillan is thriving post-“Doctor Who”. From her gripping portrayal of Nebula in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to her exciting role in the “Jumanji” films, she’s certainly climbing new heights. Similarly, Matt Smith has found a remarkable role as Daemon Targaryen in “House of the Dragon”, and Arthur Darvill recently graced our screens as Richard Madoc in “The Sandman”. It’s clear that these former “Doctor Who” cast members are making quite the impact, but for now, I think we can enjoy their current roles without worrying about them reprising their old ones.
