The popularity of the animated musical series, known as “KPop Demon Hunters,” on Netflix, continues to soar unabated. It’s been causing a sensation, captivating both the music and cinema industries.
In the heart of things lies HUNTR/X, the girl group featured in the movie. Their track “Golden” climbed to the peak of the Billboard Hot 100 two weeks ago, only to drop to number two the following week. However, it has now regained its position at the top once more.
Golden” is not the only one making waves, as “KPop Demon Hunters” soundtrack has made history by being the first movie soundtrack in nearly half a century to place three songs simultaneously in the Top 5 of the Billboard Hot 100. The last film to achieve this feat was “Saturday Night Fever” back in 1977.
In addition to the main track, various other songs from the movie are also charting highly. The eerie group Saja Boys is currently at the fourth spot with “Your Idol” and fifth position with “Soda Pop”. Meanwhile, HUNTR/X’s “How It’s Done” has made its way to number ten.
The current billboard chart marks a unique achievement as no other soundtrack has managed to position four songs within the Top 10 simultaneously. For reference, the “Waiting to Exhale” soundtrack held five Top 10 hits in the years 1995 and 1996, though it never achieved having all four songs in the Top 10 at the same time.
Instead of merely topping the music charts, “KPop Demon Hunters” has been a streaming sensation for several weeks now. Last weekend, Netflix decided to bring it to the big screen for a limited theatrical release. The movie raked in an impressive $16-18 million, landing it the top spot for the week.
According to Billboard’s report, it’s unprecedented for a Netflix movie to lead the box office, given that Netflix seldom unveils its productions in cinemas.
Apart from “KPop Demon Hunters,” the rest of the Top 100 chart features well-known artists. Alex Warren’s “Ordinary” takes the second spot, with Morgan Wallen and Tate McRae’s “What I Want” close behind in third place.
Ravyn Lenae’s “Love Me Not” ranks sixth, Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control” is in seventh place, Justin Bieber’s “Daisies” holds the eighth spot, and Wallen’s “Just In Case” is placed ninth.
Not only has the show “KPop Demon Hunters” achieved great popularity with its music, but it has also broken box office records at the cinema. This Netflix musical has demonstrated its far-reaching influence by shattering longstanding milestones in various fields.
