In 2020, Rebel Wilson declared it her “year of health,” and she indeed lost approximately 80 pounds as a result. However, she emphasizes that her health journey continues. Recently, the 45-year-old actor admitted to gaining back around 14 kg due to a busy period involving work, motherhood, and promoting her memoir Rebel Rising.
Due to my intense workload causing significant stress, I’ve unfortunately added 14 kg (30 pounds) since June 2024. Despite this, it negatively impacts how I view myself…yet it does. In April 2025, I initiated a personal six-week challenge, expressing my intention to transform into a healthier version of myself.
Inside Rebel Wilson’s ‘year of health’: Diet, exercise, mindset
Rebel Wilson moved from eating in response to emotions towards adopting sustainable dietary habits. In her own words, she admitted to PEOPLE, “I think I was emotional eating…because I wasn’t showing myself enough love.” Previously, she confessed to consuming approximately 3,000 calories per day, primarily carbs. However, during her 2020 transformation, she focused on balanced portions and a protein-rich diet, incorporating foods like fish, salmon, chicken breast, lean beef tacos, protein shakes, and walking daily. “Nothing is off-limits…I might eat half of what I used to before. And I’ll have a burger, and a few fries, and then you feel just fine,” she explained.
Her exercise routine combined strength training sessions with lengthy strolls. Advanced evaluation methods determined that walking proved to be the most effective approach for her to reduce body fat. By October 2021, she had shed an impressive 35 kg and eventually surpassed this by dropping another kg. Her health indicators showed significant improvement, and she started receiving offers for more substantial roles. In a May 2025 interview with SiriusXM, she explained, “I began to receive more serious role offers… I believe I managed to redefine myself as an actor by losing weight.
Here’s how PCOS and fertility goals shaped her plan
Wilson struggles with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a condition that may impact fertility. A consultation about fertility issues in 2019 prompted her to focus on improving her health for an egg retrieval procedure. As she shared, “He was correct; I was carrying quite a bit of unnecessary weight.” In November 2022, she gave birth to daughter Royce through a surrogate with partner Ramona Agruma. Since becoming a mother, frequent travel and sleep deprivation have made maintaining her health more challenging. “I’ve put on weight due to lack of sleep and changes in my lifestyle,” she told the Daily Mail.
Did Rebel Wilson use Ozempic?
Wilson stated that she employed Ozempic as a means to control her weight. In an interview with The Sunday Times in March 2024, she mentioned, “I have an insatiable craving for sweets, but I find these medications beneficial.” She also advised younger generations against fixating on physical appearances.
Wilson’s fundamental approach combines body positivity with wellness: “Healthy weight means becoming a healthier version of myself…One can embrace body positivity while also acknowledging that the most beneficial action for oneself might be to shed pounds.” Her journey continues to motivate countless individuals by demonstrating that sustainable change stems from self-love, determination, and equilibrium.
