James Gunn Says His SUPERMAN Saga May Cover 4 Movies

In the wake of Superman’s recent success and the positive reviews for Peacemaker season two, DC Studios’ James Gunn has been giving numerous interviews. During these discussions, he’s revealed that he is deeply engrossed in crafting the next part of his “Superman family tale,” hinting at a possible team-up between Superman and Supergirl, along with potential involvement from other heroes within the Superman universe. In an interview with The Viall Files, Gunn disclosed that his proposed “Superman Saga” starring David Corenswet could span across four films, moving away from the traditional trilogy format. Indeed, trilogies are so yesterday!

Given that Gunn has hinted that the follow-up film to Superman isn’t simply “Superman II,” we speculate that the subsequent chapters might not adhere strictly to the traditional narrative of Superman III and Superman IV movies. Considering the less than favorable reception of Superman IV: The Quest for Peace, it may be wise to avoid using those titles. Instead, we anticipate that the third chapter could take a different direction, such as Superman and Batman: World’s Finest, where DC Comics’ two most iconic heroes team up. After their confrontation in Batman v Superman, it seems fitting to explore their friendship. However, it’s crucial for a DCU Batman from The Brave and the Bold to make his appearance first before we see this team-up unfold.

It appears that our assessment points towards a full-fledged DC Universe Justice League film as the next step in this four-film sequence. Given the DCU Justice Squad already exists, a well-timed Justice League seems inevitable. In contrast to the previous DCEU, we anticipate this film will follow three on-screen appearances of Superman. Gunn has shown wisdom by not rushing into the big team-up movie. However, it’s uncertain whether Gunn will include projects without “Superman” in their titles as part of his narrative. We can only guess at this point. But we’re eagerly awaiting what Gunn plans for Superman, particularly since he captured the character so skillfully in the Superman film. And let’s not forget about Krypto – he deserves a role in each installment, don’t you think?
