After a hiatus of eight years, it has been confirmed that Daniel Day-Lewis will grace the silver screen again, and movie enthusiasts have caught their initial glimpse of his upcoming project titled “Anemone”, thanks to the debut of its official trailer.

As stated by Focus Features, the drama is helmed by Daniel Day-Lewis’ son, Ronan Day-Lewis, who also collaborated on the scriptwriting. The narrative delves into complex connections between fathers, sons, and siblings. Notably, this will be Daniel’s first role since Phantom Thread in 2017, as mentioned by Focus Features.

The film features actors like Sean Bean, Samantha Morton, Samuel Bottomley, and Safia Oakley-Green. It’s scheduled to debut at the 63rd New York Film Festival before hitting selected American theaters on October 3, 2025. On October 10, it will be released nationwide.

In September 2024, news about a new project broke out, and it was revealed that Daniel Day-Lewis would be returning to acting. Interestingly, Ronan Day-Lewis, who had been previously linked to the director role, collaborated extensively with his father on developing the storyline for this project.

The creative team comprises Jane Petrie, who’s responsible for costumes, and Chris Oddy, handling production design. Filming commenced on October 1, 2024, in Manchester, but faced a small setback around the latter half of the month in Handbridge, Chester. The issue arose when the vintage cars used during filming were issued parking tickets for parking on double-yellow lines.

A representative from Cheshire West and Chester Council clarified that during the cleanup, the toy vehicles were left untouched. They decided against a complete road shutdown to minimize inconvenience for local residents.

The main aspects of the storyline and actors’ performances are being kept under wraps, but the upcoming father-son project titled Anemone has sparked a great deal of anticipation. According to Focus Features, it is expected to be a heartfelt drama that could be one of the most buzzworthy films this year.
