Zack Snyder Announces His Next Movie: ‘The Last Photograph’

I’m thrilled to share that I, as a supporter, am announcing my upcoming movie project – “The Last Photograph.” This film has been a long-cherished dream of mine and I’m finally bringing it to life after years of pursuit. Currently in pre-production, this dramatic piece will feature Stuart Martin and Fra Fee, two talented actors I had the pleasure of collaborating with on “Rebel Moon.” I can’t wait to embark on this exciting journey with them!

Filming starts this month and continues until November, with scenes shot in Iceland, Colombia, and Los Angeles. The screenplay was penned by Kurt Johnstad (writer for Snyder’s 300 and upcoming Rebel Moon), who adapted the story from Snyder himself. Snyder, Deborah Snyder, and Wesley Coller are serving as producers under Stone Quarry, collaborating with Gianni Nunnari of Hollywood Gang Productions.

Cast and Production Team

  • Stuart Martin – previously appeared in Snyder’s Rebel Moon and Army of Thieves. He also stars in the Channel 4 series In Flight.
  • Fra Fee – known for Hawkeye on Disney+ and the Apple TV+ series Prime Target.

The scoring for this project is being managed by Hans Zimmer, along with Steven Doar and Omer Benyamin. The executive producers are Mediaset España’s Telecinco Cinema, William Doyle, and Jaguar Bite.

Story Details

The movie tells the story of an ex-DEA agent who journeys back to the mountains of South America in search of his missing niece and nephew, whose diplomat parents were brutally murdered. He partners with a disillusioned war photographer, the sole witness of the killers. As they embark on their quest, both individuals encounter the haunting memories of their past, as they delve further into uncharted territories. The distinction between reality and the fantastical becomes increasingly indistinct.

Snyder on His Approach

I’ve taken on a project that Snyder has dubbed as a profound exploration of life and death, deeply rooted in my personal experiences. Instead of tackling large-scale productions like before, I felt compelled to create something more intimate and introspective this time around.

Snyder shared with Deadline that the concept of capturing life intimately using a camera to create a film is deeply intriguing to him. ‘The Last Photograph’ is a reflection on life and mortality, drawing from some personal struggles I’ve faced and expressing these themes through visual storytelling.

More Snyder Projects in Development

In addition to creating a police drama for Netflix set in Los Angeles, Zack is also venturing into the world of mixed martial arts movies by collaborating on a film titled “Brawler” with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
