Ben Stiller not only serves as an executive producer on the popular Apple TV+ series “Severance,” but he’s also helmed 11 out of the 19 episodes across the first two seasons. However, for the forthcoming third season, Stiller will no longer be directing any episodes due to scheduling conflicts. Specifically, he wishes to focus on other directing opportunities before time runs out. Interestingly, this development was recently reported in the Los Angeles Times, hinting at potential new projects for the director of “The Cable Guy.
Stiller expressed in an interview with the Times that he’s at a stage in his life where he feels the time is slipping away. Apart from starring in the new ‘Focker-in-Law’, Stiller is eager to delve into directing, particularly a WWII survival thriller based on a true story of a downed airman in occupied France who became part of the French Resistance. Additionally, he’s wrapped up a documentary about his illustrious parents, prepared to star as the lead in an HBO-developed music industry dramedy, and is aiming to adapt Rachel Maddow’s podcast ‘Bag Man’, focusing on the bribery scandal involving Richard Nixon’s vice president, Spiro Agnew. Wow, what a busy man!
Stiller explained to the publication, “Things need time to align properly, and as you grow older, it becomes evident that your time is limited.” However, rest assured, he’s still working on Severance and has been meticulously planning season three alongside directors and showrunner Dan Erickson this year.
I truly enjoy being at the helm, and I’m definitely keen on returning at some point in the future. I have a strong feeling that season 3 will surpass all previous ones, given the ongoing evolution.
