The filming for the debut episode of the much-awaited revival of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” on Hulu is ongoing, with both original cast member Sarah Michelle Gellar and new slayer Ryan Kiera Armstrong being seen on set. They’ve even posted videos showcasing their slayer-themed exercises. However, contrary to speculation, a familiar face from the Buffyverse will not be making a comeback, at least not immediately. According to Comic Book, Charisma Carpenter, who played Cordelia Chase, the antagonist turned ally Slayer on both “Buffy” and “Angel,” is absent from the new “Buffy” series. Here’s what she communicated to Buffy fans via a TikTok post:

Frequently, people ask me if I’m part of the reboot. I wanted to clarify that I am not involved in the reboot or the pilot episode. As far as I know, the show hasn’t been green-lit for a full series yet. However, I assume it will be eventually… At present, I haven’t spoken to any decision-makers about potentially working on the show with Cordelia.
There was speculation among fans that the title of Carpenter’s Buffy rewatch podcast, “The Bitch is Back,” hinted at Cordelia’s upcoming return. However, Charisma Carpenter insists otherwise. It’s important to note that just because Cordelia isn’t in the initial episodes of the Buffy reboot doesn’t necessarily mean she won’t appear later. Sarah Michelle Gellar has expressed a desire for all former main cast members, including those who have passed away, to return at some point, and this includes Cordelia. Despite dying in Angel’s 100th episode back in 2004, there’s still hope that the original Sunnydale High graduating class of 1999 could make a grand comeback, but first, the new characters must be introduced and developed.
As a cinephile, I eagerly await the day when Charisma Carpenter’s unforgettable character, Cordelia, graces our screens once more in the upcoming Buffy reboot. Fingers crossed that this fan-favorite won’t be kept waiting too long!
