First Official Image from ‘Supergirl’ Set Has Been Released

Following Superman, another character from the Super Family will have a standalone film. Supergirl initially appeared within the DC Universe (DCU) towards the end of the Superman movie. Now, she’s moving into the limelight as she embarks on her unique tale.

The movie “Supergirl” is helmed by Craig Gillespie in both directing and writing capacities, marking it as the second film within the DC Universe. In this production, Milly Alcock portrays Kara Zor-El, better known as Supergirl. Alongside her, we have an ensemble cast that includes Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham.

As a passionate filmgoer, I’d say this movie chronicles my journey through the cosmos, fueled by a thirst for vengeance, drawing inspiration from the renowned ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ comic book saga.

Lately, the initial official photograph from the set of Supergirl emerged, offering enthusiasts a first glimpse of the authentic production sign and emblem.

For quite some time now, a standalone Supergirl film has been under production. A project centered around her character was initially unveiled as part of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) in August 2018. In the year 2023, she made an appearance in The Flash, portrayed by Sasha Calle. However, the direction for her individual movie shifted following James Gunn and Peter Safran’s appointment as co-CEOs of DC Studios in October 2022.

In January of 2023, it was officially unveiled that the upcoming Supergirl series would be titled “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.” This new project draws inspiration from a comic book miniseries written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely in 2021-2022. In November 2023, Ana Nogueira was brought on board as the screenwriter, followed by Milly Alcock being cast in January 2024. Craig Gillespie signed up as director in May 2024.

The movie’s filming commenced on January 13, 2025, at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden and in London, England, with Rob Hardy once again serving as the cinematographer. Later that week, David Krumholtz and Emily Beecham joined the cast, stepping into the roles of Supergirl’s parents, Zor-El and Alura In-Ze.

James Gunn generally kept away from the set, describing Gillespie as “just going about his business” and praising him as an excellent collaborator. By late February, Gunn and Safran announced that half of the filming had been completed. Jason Momoa and Krumholtz finished their scenes in April, with filming in Scotland continuing until May 10. It was also planned to shoot scenes in Iceland.

As suggested by the creators, Kara appears more world-weary compared to Clark due to having been brought up on a fragment of Krypton following its destruction. In the words of James Gunn, she embodies a “spunky yet sassy personality.

In this story, Matthias Schoenaerts portrays Krem from the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley takes on the role of Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young girl who crosses paths with Supergirl. Emily Beecham and David Krumholtz play the roles of her parents in the movie. The film also introduces Supergirl’s pet dog, Krypto, and features a brief appearance by Jason Momoa as Lobo, an extraterrestrial bounty hunter.

The movie titled Supergirl is set for a U.S. release by Warner Bros. Pictures on June 26, 2026. This film is one of the offerings under DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters series.
