It appears that “KPop Demon Hunters” has become one of Netflix’s most successful animated series in 2025, and it seems the tale may not have reached its conclusion just yet. According to Puck News reports, discussions are underway between Sony Pictures Animation and Netflix about a potential sequel, as well as additional projects set within the same universe.
The movie, debuting on Netflix on June 20, 2025, focuses on Huntr/x, a covert K-pop girl group that engages in demon combat. In their newest mission, they confront the Saja Boys, a deceptive boy band whose members are actually disguised demons. It blends music, fantasy, and thrilling action, creating a lively spectacle using an animated style inspired by concert lighting, music videos, Korean dramas, and anime.
In my opinion, I must express my admiration for this captivating movie that was brilliantly brought to life by the talented directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans. The star-studded cast, including Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong, Ji-young Yoo, Yunjin Kim, Daniel Dae Kim, Ken Jeong, and Lee Byung-hun, delivered outstanding performances that truly brought the characters to life. I was also blown away by the movie’s soundtrack, which became a global sensation, dominating charts worldwide. It’s safe to say that this movie left an indelible mark on me and countless others!
The initial idea for the project stemmed from Kang, who aimed to create a narrative rooted in her Korean roots, incorporating elements of mythology, demon folklore, and K-pop music. Sony Pictures Animation took on the production and development of the film, while animation duties were handled by Sony Pictures Imageworks.
Currently, according to Puck News, Sony is in discussions with Kang and Appelhans about revisiting this series for a sequel. Kang has expressed her eagerness to delve deeper into the narrative of this universe. In a conversation with Screen Rant, she hinted at unexplored mysteries, stating, “There are numerous corners in this world that remain undiscovered.” She further suggested the potential for developing character backgrounds such as Mira and Zoey.
Apart from stating that there’s ample opportunity for growth, Appelhans expressed excitement about the numerous unexplored aspects and potential standalone narratives hidden within the existing storyline.
According to TheWrap’s report from July 2025, Netflix is exploring various potential continuations of the popular series KPop Demon Hunters. These possibilities encompass two sequels, a television show, a short film, and even a stage production as a musical. At this point, nothing has been officially announced. However, given the show’s success, it appears that audiences can anticipate more thrilling adventures with Huntr/x in the future.
