Russell T Davies serves as the present showrunner for “Doctor Who,” but he isn’t in charge of deciding the show’s future plans. The second season concluded a few months back with an exhilarating cliffhanger, featuring Ncuti Gatwa’s Fifteenth Doctor transforming into none other than Billie Piper. Since then, fans are left in suspense about whether the series will return for a third season or not. Unfortunately, neither the BBC nor Disney+ has provided any official updates yet, which is causing anxiety among fans. To clarify, Mr. Davies himself is weary of being constantly asked about “Doctor Who” news and its future because he too is uncertain about it.
On the Pilot TV podcast, during our conversation, he briefly addressed a query about the series in a straightforward manner, saying, “At the moment, there’s nothing new to share, no developments taking place.” He reassured us, “You’ll be the first to hear when we do, once we have something substantial. For now, I remain in the dark as well.” (In this case, the speaker is an admirer discussing their conversation with a show creator.)
He clarified that the discussions are between BBC and Disney, stressing that he doesn’t work for either of them. Instead, he is employed by Bad Wolf, implying he’s not privy to the talks. Essentially, he admitted his ignorance about the situation since he’s not directly involved and even those he works with on a daily basis wouldn’t have insider knowledge either. In essence, he reiterated that he simply doesn’t know what’s happening.
Essentially, Russell T Davies prefers not to discuss Doctor Who with anyone right now. Given his significant involvement with Bad Wolf in the show’s production, this might seem peculiar. However, it should be noted that showrunners do not decide on series renewals; companies do. Yet, Davies could choose different ways to address ongoing discussions or simply remain silent. Instead, he is choosing to clarify that he has no involvement in the decision-making process regarding Doctor Who.
