The future of Transformers, produced by Paramount, continues to evolve. As per a recent update, Skydance’s new management is set to assess several scripts currently in production, among which there’s rumored to be one bringing back Michael Bay to the series.
Skydance to Evaluate Three Transformers Scripts
According to Deadline’s report, as part of a broader industry presentation showcasing Skydance’s post-merger plans, it has been revealed that three different screenplays for the Transformers series, which have been previously in the works, are currently being re-evaluated.
As a cinephile, I’m super pumped about the new developments with one of my favorite franchises! It’s rumored that one of these upcoming scripts will see the return of the legendary Michael Bay, which is exciting news indeed. The other two, though, are different concepts for where the story could head next. Can’t wait to see what unfolds!
The projects were already underway before the Paramount sale, and will now be evaluated by Skydance’s revamped management team, comprising of Dana Goldberg and David Ellison.
Transformers Franchise Status
Paramount’s recent Transformers output includes:
- Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023) — $442M global box office
- Transformers One (2024) — Animated prequel, considered a misfire
- Cyberworld — A new YouTube animated series and toy line that launched in July
Bay has been the one responsible for directing the initial five Transformers films that raked in billions worldwide. Although The Last Knight wrapped up his tenure in 2017, speculation of his possible comeback signifies an exciting reboot for the series.
Skydance Signals Big IP Focus
This development aligns with Skydance’s previous statements about prioritizing Star Trek and concentrating on their major intellectual properties.
Despite no formal announcements regarding Transformers, the consideration of Michael Bay’s version once more suggests a possible lean towards action-packed blockbusters featuring well-known titles.
